Duga Soviet Radar Station
Beginning operation in July of 1976 this massive mesh of metal was once the receiver of the Soviet Over-The-Horizon (OTH) early warning radar system. Located only a few miles from Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, in April of 1986 after the disaster at the plant, this giant radar system became part of the over 2000 mile exclusion zone. Eventually with the fall of the Soviet Union not long after the disaster at Chernobyl this nearly 500 foot mesh of metal was shut down for good.

This map does contain multiple references to Chernobyl and the disaster that took place there at 1:00AM April 26th 1986. In no way is this map meant to otherwise make light of the disaster, and those who put their lives on the line to prevent a further spread of radiation have my utmost respect.
