The Harlem Line – V1.0
The Metro-North Railroad Harlem Line, previously the the New York and Harlem Railroad, is an 82-mile commuter rail line running north from New York City to Wassaic, NY. The lower 53 miles (85 km) from Grand Central Terminal to Southeast is electrified with an under-running third rail and has at least two tracks. The line shares trackage with MNR’s Hudson Line from GCT to Mott Haven (CP5), and MNR’s New Haven Line from GCT to Woodlawn (CP 112). The section from Mt. Vernon West to just north of Crestwood (CP117) features a 3-track mainline, while the section from CP117 to Southeast features a 2-track mainline. Metro-North uses Bombardier M7A and Budd M3A EMUs on the electrified portion of the route, with consists ranging between 6 and 8-cars. The section north of Southeast is a non-electrified single-track line served by diesel P32AC-DM and BL20-GH locomotives with Shoreliner coaches. The diesel trains usually run as a shuttle on this section (typically a BL20-GH with 3 Shoreliner coaches, "Mini-Bomb"), except for two rush-hour express trains in the peak direction (typically a P32AC-DM with 7 Shoreliner coaches, "Maxi-Bomb"). The line’s primary yards are North White Plains Yard, located just past the NWP Station, and Brewster Yard, located just south of the Southeast Station. A small layover yard is also located just north of the Wassaic terminus. This first version of the route currently features accurate track, signals, and trackside scenery from Grand Central Terminal to Southeast, with the remainer of the route to Wassaic planned for future updates.
- 53-mile mainline from Grand Central Terminal to Southeast with accurate signalling and speed limits (extension to Wassaic planned for future updates)
- Detailed and faithfully recreated trackside scenery for entire length of route
- Improvements to pre-existing trackage and scenery south of Mt. Vernon West
- 31 Harlem Line stations
- North White Plains and Brewster Yards, Mt. Vernon West freight yard
- Improvements to GCT and new GCT East Yard
- QuickDrive scenarios that follow real-world express/local patterns
- Most platforms feature additional work that allows you to open all doors on the platform, even if the very front or rear of the car is past the platform end
- Cab-signalling compatible
In an effort to make this route accessible to as many users as possible, only four DLCs are required:
- New York to New Haven
- North Jersey Coast Line
- Hudson Line
- TS Academy (comes with the game)
All of these DLCs are equally essential to this route and must be owned for the route to work properly.
I am extremely excited to be able to release this route to the community! This route is a project I have been working on on-and-off for many years. At least one-thousand hours have been spent on development, as I learned to route build and improved my skills, building then rebuilding areas. Major contributions to this route were also made by: Kai Rendon (trackage), William McMorris, Matthew Gribbon, Sam Mencimer, Junior Campbell, and Chris Reynolds. I am extremely grateful to these people for their skillful contributions. I also appreciate the support of the Northeast Corridor Simulator Development Facebook group throughout the development process.
This route is a work-in-progress and will continue to be updated. Current Version: V1.0
Unfortunately, this recreation lacks accurate track gradients, due to the fact that I began development as a beginner and terrain imports are effectively impossible after development progress has been made. We have made our best efforts to recreate trackside terrain manually using elevation data.
Do NOT copy, redistribute for profit, or modify and republish this route in any way without my explicit permission.
Feel free to provide constructive feedback or notify me of bugs in the comments. I hope you enjoy this route as much as I have!
Although updates to this route will likely be infrequent, as life is busy, I will compile a list of issues for fixing in future updates here. Please let me know of any bugs you encounter and I will do my best to fix them.
- Third rail missing from Melrose to Fordham (there is currently a bug in TS that prevents me from adding third rail here. I am looking into fixing it)
- Slightly inaccurate third rail between CP5 and Mt. Vernon West (this is a carryover from DTG’s inaccurate third rail placement from the original NYNH and will be reworked in a future update, but is a small detail)
- Some platforms (e.g. Brewster Track 2, Valhalla Track 1) sometimes do not allow all doors to open. (This is due to TS track limitations, and I will work on fixing in future updates)
- Missing terrain (as mentioned above, this resulted from not importing scenery when beginning route development. I have tried to manually include terrain to the best of my ability, but it is possible it is missing or inaccurate in some areas)
