Description:

This is the Strategos mod.

This mod is a project of mine that works upon my previous mod (Polemos) and improve upon it. It has the same historical authenticity focus with the roleplaying aspect for Vanilla Rome 2, but it is a bit more balanced in some aspects and modifies others that may look unbalanced but in fact they are really hard to counter or face. The mod is an overhaul that works upon unit stats, faction rosters, unit abilities, formations, formation stats and campaign recruitment.

The mod affects only vanilla multiplayer, custom battles and campaign, but I’m aiming to make future updates that work upon some dlcs. Important thing to remember, the mod is not a balance mod, you will have to be more tactical and strategic to win a battle, the usual ways won’t work that well and some factions are clearly more strong while others are more weak, the mod aims to historical authenticity and to requiere a greater tactical effort.

Some of the Changes:

-Expanded unit roster for all factions

-Recruitment cost has been increased for most high tier and elite units for the campaign, as well as a significant increase in their upkeep, the idea is to make the player be more tactical in battle and economy with his armies

-Unit costs for multiplayer has also been worked around, most high tier and elite units costs have been increased, mid tiers have been balanced around and low tier normally got a reduction or increase depending of their capacities.

-Removed javelins for most of the low and mid tier units

-Ammo reduction: Slingers from 25 to 18, Archers from 18 to 12, Javelimen from 7 to 6, elite javelimen from 10 to 8, infantry with 5 javelins to 3 and those with 2 to 1

-No more long range javelins for infantry units, all have the precursor style of javelins

-Removed some of the fantasy and folk inspired units like the Berserkers or Disciples of Sobek

-Mayor stats buff to all elite infantry units to be more elite instead of overprized high tiers, elites now kick mayor ass, be careful

-Limit of elite infantry and cavalry recruitment for multiplayer and campaign. For campaign recruitment, the limit is made with the notion that a player can have a max of 16 armies, for example, you can get 48 evocati cohorts in total in a campaign and only 3 in a multiplayer battle

-Removed and added formations to units

-Removed all arcade style abilities for all units, no more head hunt, no more frenzy, no more whip

-Reorganization of recruitment for hellenic factions, now all thorax units are recruited from the last tier, this was made to simulate the thureos and thorax reforms of the hellenistic armies that occured along the 3rd and 2nd century BC

-Buff formations, in particular hoplite phalanx

-Increase armor for pikes by giving them the hoplite shield stat, this was made to simulate the fact that the pike phalanx formation gave a big protection for pikemen from range attacks due to the angles the pikes were held

-Steppe factions now have dacian infantry and some local germanic and eastern units, though Roxolany, due to being the most isolated, only has the core dacian units for campaign and must rely on mercenaries to have different units

-Spear infantry is way more dangerous, more than any the hoplites due to the hoplite phalanx buff, it would not be a good idea to face them head on even with “better” units that the hoplites

-Barbarian factions have got a small nerf to their morale to simulate their lack of discipline

A bit of advice: If you are used to play battles with high founds, you may need to try them in ultra found with this mod, mainly for the increased costs of high tier and elite units.

This is all i can say about the mod in here, there are a lot of changes to talk about, better to see them and put them to the test that read about them. If you sub to the mod, i hope you enjoy it as much as i do and i will appreciate any feedback given.
