Description:

This mod updates the look of mules, donkeys, and horses, in addition to giving them layered graphic support for all of their hair colors!

Horses now have spots and manes which can come in all the same 43 colors as their body, leading to a few hundred thousand different horse combinations! Horses’ fur and spot colors are heavily weighted in favor of shades of brown/black/white, so it’s decently common to still end up with a solid colored horse.

This is part of an expanding series of expanded animal graphic mods. If you would like to see the other mods in this series:

KNOWN ISSUES

The SDL2 update for Dwarf Fortress seems to have introduced some weird bugs in regards to layered creatures (animals specifically, not entities). Effects of this include:

  • Any animal child with layered graphics, upon growing up, will not have it’s sprite updated until the save file is reloaded.
  • Animated sprites for the creature will not display, instead just using the normal sprite.

These bugs can be seen in vanilla with any wagon pullers, and unfortunately extend to animals in this mod series. Nothing that can be done except hope the bug is fixed in the game itself.

Credit to ryno for the lovely sprites, and mcnuggy for the coding.
