Bamboo runcings were spears made of bamboo, made famous by their use during the Indonesian war of independence (1945 to 1949), although they may have been used in the region by anti Japanese resistance. Simple wooden spears were also stockpiled supposedly by Japan in 1945 to mass equip civilians in a potential Allied invasion of their nation, and other imple improvised weapons of this kind were probably used in some quantities by desperate fighters in the whole of Asia, due to the easy production, availability of materials, and lethality (at least until it breaks) of the spear
