The Mountain Pass
A "Large" (256km²), 1:4 aspect map – 8 x 32km.
At one end is a winding coastal area, which climbs to a map-spanning mountain range, and then drops again to the valleys and lakes beyond.
It’s intentionally very steep throughout – you’ll need an extremely good handle on following contours to get your train routes through.
All towns and industries are hand-placed for character and challenge… there are five major "hub" towns, with other smaller villages scattered around. Industries are tied to the landscape – mines and quarries are all up in the hills, processing industries tend to be nearer population centers, and a few industries are well placed to be served by ships.
I’ve basically aimed to build the map I always wanted to play back in Train Fever, but couldn’t. Hopefully it satisfies some others too.
Try it on "Hard" and see if you can make it without going bankrupt 😛
