Toma, the Hardlight Grappler
Donning his Hardlight Gauntlets, Toma has arrived on the World of Aether seeking to fight and catalog all kinds of strong fighters.
With various grabs and throws, Toma is able to easily reposition his opponents to get them offstage and continue the offensive from there.
Toma’s main weapon is Hardlight Defense Matrix, a series of shield generators designed to use as a form of defense. With some simple modifications, Toma managed to re-purpose them into offensive tools to ensnare the opponent as well as add some impact to his punches.
Toma is nothing without flashy showmanship. Each throw executed will increase his hype, which further powers up his grabs and throws.
For each level of hype:
- FSpecial travels farther with a grabbed opponent.
- FThrow travels farther.
- BThrow travels farther.
- UThrow travels higher and has more aerial drift.
- DTrhow does more damage.
By choosing to hold onto a fully charged DSpecial (or regrabbing it when it’s been deployed) Tome enters the charged state, further empowering his throws by doing more damage and the following effects:
- FSpecial deals more damage dragging on the ground.
- FThrow travels farther and has more knockback.
- BThrow travels farther and has more knockback.
- UThrow travels MUCH higher and has more damage and knockback.
- DThrow deals more hitstun as well as applying slight Tipper Stun.
- UAir deals more knockback and more hitstun.
Grab your opponent and input one of four directions to use a throw:
– Hardlight Buster (Up Throw)
Used to deal a chunk of damage and reposition yourself and your opponent to a platform.
– Hardlight Spin (Forward Throw)
Light damage and low scaling. Use to position your opponent offstage to challenge a recovery.
– Hardlight Roll (Back Throw)
Same as Forward throw, but moves backward.
– Hardlight Flash (Down Throw)
Deals damage and spikes.
A lunging grab. If it connects, Toma will latch on to them and carry them across the stage, dealing damage along the way. The distance traveled increases based on the Hype Level.
Toma activates up to three Hardlight Generators to form a wall that slowly travels forward. The shield can block up to three projectiles and if it collides with an opponent, it will stun them for a brief time.
Toma launches himself upward, grabbing toward the peak of the jump. If Toma grabs an opponent, he will grapple them and start travelling downward. This deals a lot of damage when landing.
If Toma collides with a wall, he’ll ricohet off and shoot himself upward.
Press taunt at the beginning of the match to bring up the chat. Some familiar names will start typing in the chat, offering precious nuggets of wisdom and truly invaluable opinions.
Toma calls for help and advice with certain characters. A friend of his may pick up the line and offer their insight, however useless it may be.
(I wrote a lot of these in a hurry, they’re not on a lot of characters and they’ll improve with time I promise. I’m not a writer)
Toma has a number of extra taunts. Use them, it’s funny.
By hitting the button on the CSS, you can enable one of these two modes. "Competitive" mode disables a lot of the extra code that runs such as the chat, the codecs, etc. Use this if your computer cannot handle the magnificent, clearly flawless programming.
(Despite "Competitive" Mode’s naming, it’s still not designed to be competitive)
