Background:
In the late 60s and early 70s, Germans wanted a tank that would replace their aging Leopard 1 design. They started development on the MBT-70 project, but that would not prove successful, so they started a new project. Fast forwarding to the 1980s, Leopard 2a4s were developed and manufactured en masse. Older models of the Leopard 2 were converted into 2a4 variants. The Leopard 2a4 was the most plentiful in the Leopard family. Although its design has been surpassed by newer models, it still remains in the Bundeswehr.
