Description:

TL;DR: Gives Christianity the Close-Kin Taboo doctrine. It’s historical, dammit.

Why?

Why would any self-respecting Crusader Kings player remove incest marriage? It’s heresy, heresy I tell you!

Well, actually it’s not.

Following Roman law, the early church banned any marriage within four degrees of consanguinity. That’s already more restrictive than Close-Kin Taboo. Then, in the 800s the limit was raised to seven degrees, which is completely not supported in the base game. This limit was only brought back down to four during the Fourth Lateran Council in 1215, and was lowered again to two during the Council of Trent in the mid-1500s.

Fun fact, because the limit was raised to seven before the Great Schism, those rules ended up applying to the Orthodox church as well. They never ended up removing or lowering those limits, so to this day, the Orthodox church bans marriage within seven degrees of consanguinity.

Dunno about Coptics and the like though. If you know, let me know.

Wait, degrees of what?

Degrees of consanguinity are essentially a way to describe how closely two people are related. It’s determined by drawing a line between the two people on a family tree, only via parent/child relations, and counting up for each person you go past.

Here’s a neat chart from Wikipedia:

Compatibility

This mod is incompatible with anything that modifies 00_christianity.txt.

P.S.

This mod is currently just changing one line in one txt file lmao. I’ll probably expand this mod to add a new doctrine for the seven degrees in the future.
