The First Gulf War, also known as the Persian Gulf War or Operation Desert Storm, was a military conflict that took place between August 1990 and February 1991. It arose from the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in August 1990, when Iraqi forces under the leadership of Saddam Hussein occupied and annexed Kuwait, triggering international outcry and fear of further aggression in the region.
In response, an international coalition led by the United States swiftly intervened, launching a military operation to liberate Kuwait and expel Iraqi forces. The offensive began with a massive aerial bombardment by coalition forces, followed by a ground assault that quickly overwhelmed the Iraqi army.
