Description:

A bit of history:
The SNS 052 is a former all weather, self righting lifeboat, operated by the french SNSM until 2001. Launched in 1972, it was used by several rescue stations. Fitted with two powerful diesel engines, it could achieve a top speed of 12 knots. Capable of sailing no matter the weather, the rescuers were able to save hundreds of persons with this boat. It was named after a heroic lifeboat captain, Noé Devaud, who conducted a tragic rescue operation in 1917.

For the stormworks counterpart, I tried to replicate as best as I could the global shape, but I couldn’t find any pictures of the interior, so I took inspiration from other lifeboats of this era, particularly from the RNLI «Solent» and «Watson» class… In game, the boat is way faster, as you can reach a top speed of 28 knots in calm seas.
Just like it’s real life counterpart, the stormworks SNS 052 is self righting. Although the coxwain’s cabin is not watertight, in case of capsizing, it should recover quickly enough so that you won’t drown… for long missions in high seas, it is recommended to keep an oxygen mask, just in case.

OPERATING THE BOAT :

Engines :
Starting the engines is pretty straightforward :

  • In the cabin, make sure the general breaker on the ceiling is turned ON, to supply power.
  • Turn on both STARBOARD and PORT fuel pumps
  • Turn on engine starters
  • Increase throttle a bit

And off you go !

Sea Water Pump :
This boat is capable of firefighting, using a pump driven by the port engine. In order to operate it you must :

  • Go down to the engine compartment, and disconnect the PORT clutch
  • In the pump compartment, engage the switch «POWER PUMP»
  • Observe as the pressure rises
  • Go back to the deck, in the middle of the ship
  • Locate the «SEA WATER PUMP VALVE » switch and engage it
  • Connect a fluid hose to the anchor located nearby

Various equipments :

  • Transponder Locator
  • VHF Radio
  • Winch on the AFT deck
  • Radar

GOOD TO KNOW

  • The cabin isn’t watertight. Be careful when sailing in rough seas, remember to lower your speed
  • Fuel will drain relatively fast at full power. Between 19 and 22 knots is where you will have the most range

Again, a huge thank to GERUNIMO for letting me use his radar !
