Canada – A land of snow and Forests has a severe lack of forests. The Hudson Bay reduced to a mere lake, train tracks that don’t fully connect provinces.
Some may question why a few in game states (provinces) get so much – For that I’d like you to compare the size of Ontario and Quebec to the eastern USA or Europe. And do that for the rest of the provinces :P. Canadian provinces are ridiculously large – it’s common for us to take a multiday road trip across provinces to visit family. With that said, I believe Canadian states require significantly more arable land and resource caps. Ontario and Quebec are modeled fine for arable lands. Prairies… not so much.
Goal of this mod is to fix up the Great North and maybe (if I can get it working) get some mods up in the territories for those who want to really invest in the resource rich north. I don’t plan on deviating into some alt history or new events (since I’m not confident I can accurately portray these key events – If someone else wants to, please reach out and we can work together!). Just hoping to make canada RP a little better. As well, I’d like to better reflect the vast untapped resources of the interior and how difficult it was historically to access it. It’s bad faith to not even include those resources as if there was a concerted effort in colonize and industrialize the interior, much of those resources may have been accessible.
Added gold deposits to northern and eastern canada to better reflect the large gold, diamond and silver deposits in the regions. So far Im liking the idea of it being a PITA to inhabit the north – the large gold deposits but non-existant infrastructure balances things out IMO.
The modifiers feel cramped but there’s only so much you can do with the limited amount of states in Canada.

Changelog:
10/16/2023
-Added single use Hudson Bay port. This port can’t be normally built so try not to delete it right away. This HBC port better aligns with the small settlements/factories along the coast of the Hudson Bay, without being to fairly unrealistic with the base vanilla ports.
Regular ports can still be built but it’s not recommended in the early game with low pops.
10/17/2023
-Turns out I can make the port buildable in only states within the hudson bay. Neat. HBC port can now be built in Man/Ont/Nvt.
Still testing the waters with this building as the goal is to have a very basic and linear scaling port. So far there is a max of 8 ports that can be built with low pop costs. This should translate to no more than 16 infrastructure. Hopefully this is a good balance with the negative infrastructure modifiers.
10/19/2023
Added 3 Major jorunal Entries
Northern territory settlements
Canada gold
Quebec iron
Significantly reduced the raw gold fields discovered in canada. Increase gold percentage instead as you finish journals
TO DO:
Split all 10 provinces into a North and South.
-Southern provinces will have a significant amount of arable land, comparable to a continental france arable land
-northern province will have barely any arable land (more than NFLD) but contain a large supply of resources. Notably wood, iron, coal, gold.
Add journal entries and "quests" for the following:
-Inhabiting the northern provinces
-Add JEs to each northern province regarding resource extraction, migration
–These will include traversing river systems, lakes, forests and tundra. Should be difficult. As it was historically.
-Once bordering northern provinces JEs are completed – start JEs for territory migration and resource extraction.
–This should be a massive investment by the player if they choose to do so. Will be long, require heavy industrialization and GDP.
