Description:

Chrysler introduced what would become its flagship vehicle in 1938 as an optional package of the Chrysler Imperial. It quickly became the darling car for those that had found success in their careers and, as a result, became a suburban status symbol. This trend continued post-World War 2 as millions of breadwinners vied for a shiny Chrysler in their driveway to show off to their friends and neighbors.

But the good years wouldn’t last. One of the first victims of what we now refer to today as "the Malaise Era" was Chrysler, and their early 1970s flagship was a herald of things to come. Built on the C-body chassis introduced the previous decade, the 1971 New Yorker was marketed as a forward-thinking design using Chrylser’s "Fuselage" styling, but that design quickly looked dated, forcing yearly facelifts to keep up with the latest trends. When the fuel crisis hit in 1973, it was the death knell for the proud New Yorker.

Ultimately, the C-body New Yorkers gave way to the R-body in 1979. A smaller, lighter chassis designed to increase fuel economy. That was replaced in 1982 with the M-body, an even smaller and lighter chassis. Long gone were the days of the New Yorker’s grand opulence, but those vehicles that lived on still whispered of luxury, now rusting away. Thankfully, the zombie apocalypse just happened so it’s a good opportunity to get your hands on one.

About

This mod adds the 1971 Chrysler New Yorker to the game for you to find and drive. It’s a four-door sedan with enough space for you and five of your friends to ride comfortably, albeit without a lot of speed. What it lacks in handling and acceleration, it makes up for in protection from the undead hordes. If you can find one of these and restore it, it will be a solid companion for any survivor group.

Features include:

  • Ten Color Options: Available in 10 different two-tone color options that replicate the colors the vehicle was originally offered in
  • Animated: Opening doors, windows, trunk, and engine bay
  • Mechanic System: Removable/repairable parts with custom graphics
  • Physics: Realistic handling and properties
  • Distribution: As a 20+ year-old car, it’s not often found in the nice part of town
  • Localized: Includes translations for Simplified Chinese, English, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish

Future Plans

Armor: Still working on getting the armor on the doors animated. I thought I had a solution but couldn’t get it to work as anticipated. However, I didn’t want to delay the release any further for a small cosmetic bug (the armor stays in place when the doors open) and will update the vehicle as soon as I find a working solution.

Ethos

My goal is to release cars that fit into the vanilla game world and stylistically match the base-game’s textures and art design. Additionally, I’ve also strive for my work to be ultra light-weight (to keep performance smooth) and to look great with other vehicle mods that share a similar ethos, such as Filibuster Rhymes’ Used Cars, fhqwhgads’ Motorious Zone, and improvement mods such as the Vanilla Vehicle Enhancer, among others.

My vehicle mods use real world names.
