DEI – Spartan Unit Submod [UPDATED]
The model known as summary_italo_corinthian and summary_italo_corinthian_bronze, is not entirely my work and has been purchased from a 3D modeler. Kindly, inform me should you wish to use this model. Any mod that uses this model without my consent will be flagged and taken down!
This Submod adds several new units to the Spartan faction to the Divide et Impera Mod (all 3 parts required).

The intent of this mod is to give Sparta a sort of niche position in the campaign. Although, the Spartan roster in Divide et Impera is limited and rightly so, I feel they could use some extra love as Sparta in its final years did try to reform its military, culture and society tremendously through Cleomenes III and Nabis. This mod aims to enable Sparta to improve its roster allowing it to field respectable pikemen that can stand toe-to-toe with the other Hellenic factions and the Diadochi. It follows a what-if scenario that remains true to the natural and historical evolution of the Spartan military without going overboard by adding other types of units like cavalry. As such it doesn’t afford Sparta the luxury of a well-balanced roster like the other Diadochi and Hellenic factions. To attain such a balance, players will have to still rely on mercenaries and AoR units, which would be a more historical and immersive way to play as Sparta. Kindly let me know of any bugs you encounter, and I will try to rectify them as promptly as possible. Enjoy!
In this reform, Cleomenes III attempted to bolster Sparta’s manpower and trained the Spartans to adopt the Macedonian Phalanx. Land was redivided and allowed for the restoration of 4,000 Spartiates. To reflect this in-game, I have decided to add the following units:
(1) Perioikoi Phalangitai (Perioikoi Pikemen). This represents the shift in the Spartan formation from the traditional Hoplitai to the Phalangitai.
(2) Neohomoioi Doriphoroi (Spartan Spear-Bearer). This represents the ambush and shock troops that the Spartans employed during their campaign against Pyrrhus of Epirus.
(3) Symmachoi Kretai Toxotai (Allied Cretan Archers). This represents Sparta’s acknowledgement of the importance of support troops and the recruitment of allied archers especially the Cretans under the reign of Areus I and Acrotatus II.
In this reform, Nabis attempted to further bolster Sparta’s manpower through the emancipation of the Helot class. Like Cleomenes III, he trained these new citizens of Sparta to fight in the Macedonian phalanx. To reflect this in-game, I have decided to add the following units:
(1) Thorakitai Neodamodes Phalangitai (Freed Helot Thorax Pikemen). This represents the emancipation of the Helot class and training them to fight in the Macedonian Phalanx.
(2) Thorakitai Neohomoioi Doriphoroi (Spartan Thorax Spear-Bearer). This represents the reformation of the Neohomoioi Doriphoroi to Thorakitai.
(3) Thorakitai Neohomoioi Phalangitai (Spartan Thorax Pikemen). This represents the reformation of the Neohomoioi Phalangitai to the Thorakitai.
