Description:

My main goal is to rework the baseline unit structure to allow easier balancing by removing the asymmetric soldier counts such as 200 ashigaru versus 160 samurai. This is for the Sengoku Jidai campaign.

I believe most rebalancing mods may be out of control because of this baseline design choice.

So the main tweaks here are the soldier counts per unit to a flat 200 for infantry, 100 for horseback and 50 for siege. In all cases of cavalry and siege this is a buff, and in all cases of samurai this is a buff.

Ashigaru *may* either become obsolete or need support from samurai or horses with this mod (unless clan specific such as Oda or Ikko Ikki). The balance over-all seems fullfilling to me, and may make the game more challenging. Beware that attacking a castle is now a challenge! However do not underestimate spear wall, still useful on the field or behind the castle wall even versus samurai. Use your new 200 samurai retainers to gaurd the wall or charge oncoming samurai.

Unit veterancy has been reworked to remove the ridiculous defence bonus, which in my opinion unbalances the sword/spear units. As well the ranged unit buffs have taken a nerf, with a huge soldier increase this was too much (besides I thought the ranged buff was ridiculous anyway even with vanilla units).

The mod has been cleaned and optimised, but I am sure is not compatible with mods that change the land units table.

:Veterancy:

Unit levels now contribute much less melee defence (too over powered), as well a significant reduction in reload skill and accuracy as ranged units get too strong with veteran chevrons (especially with the new soldier counts).

:Infantry:

All infantry units upped to 200 soldiers (including all sword, spear and bow).

This means all samurai units have been buffed by 40 soldiers, as well as all ranged units including samurai and ashigaru.

Main spear and sword units are the same at 200 for ashigaru.

I want samurai to be worth the investment and to become a useful mix into the army.

Spear walls remain very powerful at holding an army (and usually beating them), however the bow and carbine units have 40 more soldiers.

Ashigaru archers may get many kills and level up fast, however samurai bow archers now grant 200 soldiers as well meaning they are now a valid replacement and will be very deadly. Ashigaru now have 3 morale now (from 4).

Ikko Ikki ashigaru units all have 240 soldiers for spear and bow, but remain at 200 for swords. However, their morale has been dropped to compensate for the steam roll (5 -> 2).

Bows are very deadly with the extra 40 soldiers, they will get more kills and must be charged down by cavalry.

Chosokabe Daikyu have reduced armour to 2.

Yari samurai have been buffed with +2 defence and +2 morale, because they are under-appreciated despite being incredibly useful. Don’t underestimate them, they are general killers!

Ninjas have corrected ammo for the clans, and also been upped to 200 soldiers. They may be a handful!

:Cavalry:

All cavalry units upped to 100 soldiers and horses (including all sword, spear and bow).

This is a buff of 40 soldiers per unit, making cavalry more flexible for charging and dismounting.

Takeda have a bonus +2 armour for all cavalry.

:General / Hero Unit:

All generals upped to 100 body guard so they are more useful from the start and came become a strong combat unit.

All hero units upped to 200 soldiers for infantry and 100 for horseback. They take forever to get, cost a lot and you are limited to one of each, so now they are very formidable.

:Siege:

All siege upped units to 50 soldiers, and 5 engines (from 40 and 4 engines, or 30 rockets).

Siege also have been buffed to make them more useful to combat the harsh sieges. Mangonel’s in particular have been reworked to be fast reloading and more accuracte with more ammo. Cannons are slightly slower but have more ammo.

Fire bomb throwers have a lot more armour, like seriously this was a must, and are slightly better then before. Beware those underneath the castle wall being rained on by these guys.
