Tower of Babel · World Wonder
The story of the Tower of Babel is told in Genesis 11:1-9. In this story, people who spoke only one language traveled to the land of Shinar after the Great Flood to build the Tower of Babel up to the heavens. The Lord, seeing their actions, confounded their language so that they could no longer understand each other scattered throughout the world. Stories of “gods destroying towers” and “confusion of tongues” also exist in other cultures in the Middle East, and some modern scholars believe that the Tower of Babel may have been modeled after the Babylonian Temple of Etemenanki (“Etemenanki” means “the foundation of the heavens and the earth”).
"Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves"
