Santa Fe 2926 (Read Description)
The Santa Fe 2926 is a 4-8-4 type steam locomotive built in 1944 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works for the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad (AT&SF). It was used to pull passenger and freight trains in New Mexico until 1953 when it was retired from revenue service. The 2926 is one of the last steam locomotives built for the ATSF and the only operating 2900 in the United States. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is recognized as the Official Steam Locomotive of New Mexico.
In 2021, the 2926 moved under its own steam power again for the first time since 1956. #2926 is also the ATSF’s largest engine.
