Rebalanced Mines
Updated for Gathering Storm!
In Civilization VI, production is king. As a result, mines are one of the best improvements in the game and in the current meta, players are encouraged to essentially spam them everywhere. With this mod, you will not be able to place mines on most hills without resources. There are also additional balance changes to compensate for the loss of production. See below for the full list of changes.
The result is a more aesthetically pleasing and interesting landscape, an improved pace, and less rote gameplay. Without this mod, the decision to chop a forest on top of a hill was a no-brainer. Now, these decisions are more impactful.
- Mines without resources can only be built on Desert, Tundra, and Snow hills.
- Farms can now be built on hills much earlier, at Animal Husbandry (applies to Canada’s tundra farms too).
- Farms now receive +1 Production at Mass Production.
- Lumber Mills now unlock at The Wheel technology.
- Lumber Mills and Quarries have been updated to receive an additional Production bonus throughout the Tech Tree to be equal with Mines.
- Industrial Zones now receive standard adjacency bonuses from Lumber Mills and Rivers.
- Ruhr Valley’s bonus now applies to Lumber Mills.
- Korea’s Three Kingdoms bonus that gives Science for Mines adjacent to Seowons now also applies to Lumber Mills as well.
This mod was completely inspired by a discussion on Reddit started by JNR13 (link). A similar mod by Desucrate is also on the workshop; it differs from this mod in some key ways and can be viewed here. I thank both of these users for inspiring this mod.
This mod IS compatible with Magil’s Wondrous Wonders despite the Ruhr Valley changes. If Wondrous Wonders is activated, this mod’s Ruhr Valley changes will not go into effect.
