Masked Mustachio’s Dwarf Rangers Expanded
I like dwarves but hate that Bugman Rangers are only available with xbows. The reason I don’t like that is because I feel like in battle the xbows are the easiest to use effectively. Just put them behind your line and let them do their thing. So Bugman Rangers being a top tier ranged infantry for dwarves means that there is little reason to take any other unit such as the thunderers or axe throwing rangers. This mod was made with the intention of giving you more things to consider when hiring your ranged infantry units.
Thus I made this mod to bring in 3 new units built in the Ranger Barracks:
Rangers (Rifles)
Bugman’s Rangers (Rifles): Also requires Gunsmith’s Forge (2nd upgrade of workshop building tree)
Bugman’s Rangers (Great Weapons): Also requires Mustering Hall (3rd upgrade of barracks building tree)
All of these units are recruited in the upgraded ranger outpost. To make sure that one building couldn’t recruit everything, I made the two new Bugman units need separate additional buildings to recruit. I would have required the Brewery for all of them as well if I could make 2 additional requirements to produce a unit but that is not possible, but I feel like the way I did it worked out just fine.
I know that others may have made a mod similar to this, but I wanted to do one my way because other modders have their own ideas about how best to implement ideas and I made this mod for me, my wife, and my friend so I wanted to do it the way we think is best.
All of there stats such as costs and combat skills are based on how those same stats changed from Quarrelers to Rangers to Bugman’s Rangers. I used those same growths to take the stats from the Rangers (Great Weapon) to make the Bugman’s variant and did the same with Thunderers->Ranger (Rifles)->Bugman’s Rangers (Rifles).
