Metall’s Frackin De-Passive Research
Disappointed after taking your time building for a couple hours only to find you now have half the research tree unlocked? Wish there was a system for only getting research when you were trying to get it?

This mod disables passive research in favor of buffed computer and microscope research.
Research from crew is tripled, and madness and protheon and such still works. There’s just no base research generation increased by planets and playtime.
It also gives you a single basic computer in your ship’s locker to get started, and it doesn’t require power. Try not to lose it…
I’ve set the best computers to return half an item’s value in research. So 300 tungsten bars would yield like 10,000 research for example.
The conversion and time required for computers to process is now:
- Basic computer: 25%, 30 sec
- Personal Computer: 25%, 20 sec
- Advanced Computer: 25%, 10 sec
- Research Server: 35%, 1 sec
- Research Mainframe: 50%, 1 sec
- Precursor Data Box: 40%, 0.5 sec
- Precursor Mainframe: 50%, 0.5 sec
Additionally, item rarity increases the research gained further:
- Common: x1
- Uncommon: x1.25
- Rare: x1.5
- Legendary(and Essential): x2
This means a mainframe and a legendary item will give its full value as research.
Research from microscopes was minimally changed, I just added a zero onto the end of what they yield, hopefully that works out fine.
From my brief time playtesting, this mod works fine. I also took a break and came back like 2 years later to find it’s still not broken. It does completely copy some .lua and .object files from Frackin Universe, and as such if Frackin ever has those files changed then this mod will break completely. But, the files haven’t changed for years, so it’s probably fine.
Disclaimer: The function of this mod and its changes to the research system EXPLICITLY goes against the vision of Sayter and others responsible for Frackin Universe, DO NOT pester him about adding some option for this officially. Don’t even tell him this mod exists. Seriously. I’ve already asked. He was not happy.
