361 AD – The Age of Julian the Apostate (1.0.3)
The year is 361 AD and the Roman Empire is united under the rule of Emperor Flavius Claudius Julianus. Julian, the last surviving member of the Constantinian dynasty, is a devout adherent of the Greco-Roman pagan religion. He stands against the tide of the increasing Christianisation of the Empire and this has made him somewhat unpopular to the masses across the great cities of the Empire.
Julian rose to power as the last surviving cousin of his imperial predecessor – Constantius II. While Juilian was young, the Emperor Constantius II purged most of his family, killing all males with blood relation to him aside from Julian himself.
Julian, while still young, was exiled to the Eastern Roman Empire where he entangled himself in studies of ancient philosophy and religion. Now a grown man, Julian victoriously commanded Roman forces at the battle of Strasbourg against the Alamanni tribes.
At the time of the death of the Emperor Constantius II – Julian was promoted to Augustus of the Roman Empire. Seeking to bolster his imperium, Julian has ambitions to campaign in the East against the Sassanid Persian Empire, eager to follow in the footsteps of Alexander the Great. Will Julian succeed in his ambitions ?, or will his ambitions be his downfall. The scene is set for a clash of empires. Lead Rome to glory !
