PALSJ’s Poofs – Curly Hairstyles
This is a hair mod for Project Zomboid that hopes to focus on curly hair textures and styles, especially those utilized by African Americans and other members of the African diaspora, while maintaining the low-ish poly Project Zomboid style. While you (or your character) do not have to be black to use this mod, the specific goal here is to empower Africana folks to create characters that look like themselves and their communities.
All hairstyles have support for the male and female model as well as hat support, regardless of the name or implied ‘gender’ of the style. Hair is not gendered–so rock whatever style you like!
Please feel free to suggest names for styles that do not have a cute name!
- FIVE new hairstyles–Killmonger, Loose Short Braids, Messy Curly Bun, Curly Ponytail, and Braided Bun!
- Various mild optimizations of past hairstyles
- Clipping occurs with some hairstyles due to a lack of hat support–I’m working on it, I promise! Patience is always appreciated while I figure this out <3
- Lucian and Lucian (Tied) will be redone to better reflect my current skill level (I still ain’t happy with this one)
- Research is going into curl technology for the long curly hairstyle of my dreams… (Two more hairstyles WIP)
If there are any bugs not listed here, please use the discussions section to let me know! I will do my best to fix them. You can also check the change log to see when the mod was last updated, what was fixed and/or added, and what is planned for the next update!
Maybe! I intend to add more natural hair styles and masculine styles. I likely won’t be trying any straight hairstyles as a) that’s not the point of this mod and b) honestly…it seems harder. Haha!
Not only can you…it’s really easy! My blender files and .FBX files are available your Workshop folder if you dig around a bit. Any unique textures should also be readily available. My one request is credit, even if it’s just in the description or a pinned comment, but please–go nuts!
Yes, and…in an effort to avoid people having to search everywhere just to play with this mod in their language, I would like to keep all translation efforts localized onto this mod. I have no idea what there would even be to translate, but…y’know. If you have a translation you would like to add, such as a differing character name that is used in other languages, please send it to me, and I will happily and gratefully add it to this mod and your name on this page!
Great! Any requests can go in the comments, and if anyone wants to support, please feel free to reach out. I’m @PALSJ on Discord. If you are interested in tipping, my Ko-fi is linked below. Comments always make me smile–so please feel free to leave those too! 🙂
No, and I wouldn’t encourage you to do so anyway. I want folks to have access to the most up to date version of this mod, which may happen at any time…subject to my life/schedule. I’m not a tech-y person and my job doesn’t often have me in front of a computer–All of these efforts happen in my downtime, but I’m also a friend, daughter, sister, and painfully human! <3 Self care is what keeps me modding, but it unfortunately means that my updates are inconsistent at best.
TLDR, I don’t want folks having an out-of-date experience, and while mod packs are convenient for users, they’re inconvenient for creators when it comes to updates. Please do not put this mod into a mod pack.
Both very true statements! Regardless of those facts, there are very few hairstyles that accurately represent the tighter-coiled textures African American folks (such as myself) often have. Even in the modding scene, there is only one mod that I would say accurately depicts a texture like my own–and while that mod does a great job–it nonetheless provides a total of two (very nicely done) hairstyles. I simply want to provide more! Nothing more, nothing less.
That’s because…they were! I learned Blender in about two weeks (at the time I published this mod), and I still struggle with the PZ/coding side of things. If you can do better, I not only invite you to–I DARE you to! >:)
