Eliteguardian’s Odrysian Unit Expansion
Hello and welcome to my first mod for Rome 2!
This simple mod adds 7 New units to the Odrysian Kingdom in the grand campaign and custom battles! (And adds one of them for cimmeria)
All of the units are meant to fit into the vanilla game in how they appear in-game,their unit cards and how their stats are balanced.
While i have tried my best to balance these units i’m open to input if you feel a unit is over or under performing and any other suggestions you feel could make this mod this best it can be.
Now lets get on to the units!
Thracian Levies: A simple levy spear unit that replaces (And shares stats with) the dacian spears that CA decided for some reason needed to be used instead of making any native thracian spear units. (Requires foraging the first military tech to research)
Thracian Spears: A pretty standard spear unit to hold a battle line not great but not bad either
Thracian Thureos Spears: The best native spear unit you can field now similar to the Thureos Spears of Greek factions in that they can throw javelins like peltasts but only have 3 ammo instead of the 5 that the Greeks get. (Requires Calvary Tactics to be researched)
Thracian Swordsmen: A light sword unit that can also throw javelins like the Thureos spears and has a nice 10 melee ap damage but less raw damage than most other barbarian Swordsmen. (This unit is also available to cimmeria in the grand campaign and custom battles)
Thracian Thureos Swordsmen: A sword version of the Thureos spears but use precursor javelin and have slightly less armor. (Requires Calvary Tactics to be researched)
Thracian Noble Swordsmen: A tough late game heavy melee unit that inspires and can be recruited as a general.
Thracian Lancers: A medium shock cavalry unit addition cause c’mon how are the thracians known for their peltasts and cavalry but don’t have a shock cavalry unit when we have evidence that they used cavalry with long spears/lances. (Requires Calvary Tactics to be researched)
You may be thinking "Eliteguardian why add the swordsmen to cimmeria and why add just the swordsmen?" You see the ruling spartocid dynasty are thought to be of Thracian origin and the melee roster for cimmeria has only one unit. This addition wont make cimmeria a melee powerhouse to rival the great barbarian factions so worry not the swordsmen are only a small step above the steppe axemen they get and helps make them stand out that much more from other Greeks.
What about future plans for this mod? I plan on adjusting the vanilla units for the roster a bit because now they probably have a slightly Op roster with all these unit additions so i’d like to take out the Thracian warriors and Nobles and add in a new light rhomphaia wielding unit to not have so much variety and nerf the stats of Thracian peltasts to not be so good in a melee and maybe a small javelin damage nerf to make them feel closer to Greek peltasts but again i’d welcome input on what you guys think! Other than that i’ll probably make minor adjustments to unit cosmetics but nothing too crazy so they keep the vanilla feel.
Thank you too Azu for making the unit cards!
