Don’t Reposition
Sick of goons getting a free chance to duck behind cover when you surprise them?
Stop the enemy from going into a ‘repositioning’ phase at the start of combat.
Go to ‘Options -> Mod Options -> Don’t Reposition’ to toggle on or off.
Probably makes the game much, much easier…
It does (at least, on First Blood with a fairly vanilla mod setup*). Stealth builds will get very far, very quickly. I’ve personally found this very, very satisfying. It feels like I can orchestrate real stealthy operations without the issue of a free noisy phase ruining things. Your mileage will vary, of course. Let me know.
It was a great and accidental help in getting the "Flawless Victory" achievement, anyway. But I’ll always remember that mission, so who’s to say?
My first mod, so if it does anything funny, please let me know.
NOTES: Certain ways of triggering combat may still show the ‘Enemy Repositioning’ UI notification briefly, but as far as I can tell, none of the goons actually reposition themselves. If you see any different, let me know. And if you figure out how to exactly reproduce the UI notification, let me know.
This is hopefully fixed. Let me know if not.
Goons can still appear to reposition (without the UI notification) in the second round of combat, but this is just regular AI behaviour. As far as I can tell, the ‘Enemy Repositioning’ phase is just a prompt to perform this behaviour, and this mod just tells the goons that they’ve already done it.
("Hey buddy! Naw you’re fine. This is already the perfect defensive position…")
Part of the mod is triggered on a per-unit basis, so goons joining the fight after it has already started *shouldn’t* be able to reposition either, but I’ve not had any combat experience so far. Again, let me know.
I’ve been ruthlessly conquering Grand Chien, and this seems to be a big part of their (goon) problem.
* MOD SETUP: I’m using the general ToG ecosystem (with C-UAE and Zulib’s core) and some UI mods (Audaki’s and Descriptive Chance To Hit). Finally, Pinned Down, because I like the extra flavour, and Start Hidden because it should be built in.
I’m really interested in knowing what people think about the differences this mod makes, and whether it’s worth thinking about it on a more simulated basis, e.g. based on noise made, or visibility, ect
