Description:

Prioritizes mining to the rarest metal first; unskilled miners only work rocks.

"Hey! A plasteel meteorite dropped! Let’s go mine that valuable ore!"

"Okay, I’ll put it on the list of things to do, after we finish tunneling the next few rooms"

"And mining that steel nearby"

"Yea, and also, there’s some slate designated to be mined that is ten feet closer than the meteorite, but in the opposite direction"

"If I’m going to spend a day doing grueling labor I don’t want to walk any further than needed. Slate first."

"Then we’ll get to the plasteel"

Mine valuable ores before tunneling through rock. Prioritizes mining to the rarest metal first.

Only your best miners will dig for valuables (Otherwise you lose some – Check your pawn’s stats to see their mining yield. Only miners with the highest yield available will mine.)
– There’s a setting to allow someone who is ~90% as good as your best to also mine.

Continue work on partially mined ore, instead of just the closest.

And I guess this all applies to drills as well, preferring the most exhausted drill.

FAQ:

Are you suuuure no one will mine?

This mod does turn off mining so that "Only your best miners" can mine valuables.

Can you verify your actual best miner can’t mine? Well there you go – you can tweak the settings to include more miners.

Can you right-click a vein and see the job to mine is disabled because (Not the best miner)? Yea, that’s why.

Can you uncheck the best miner in the settings so everyone can mine? That’s again the reason.

Can you mine mountain rock? Everyone should be able to mine mountain rock.
