Description:

Adds a new critter species to the game called the Roller Snake. It can be found in care packages or in an entirely new biome called the Desert which is found on a new asteroid called Tetrament. In addition to just Roller Snakes this mod also includes two new plant species called the Spiky Succulent and the Aqua Bulb.

This mod is updated to Spaced Out and reuploaded with permission from the original author, test447.

The public_previous_update branch is not supported, due to bugs in the base game loading world gen files from archived versions of the mod.

New Critter

Living in the Desert is a peculiar type of snake that moves around by rolling up into a loop and rolling around. Roller Snakes are a new species of critter introduced in the Desert Biome. They come in two variants with adult and baby versions.

  • Roller Snakes are the default type of Roller Snakes and have a distinct red color.
  • Tough Roller Snakes are a morph of Roller Snakes that are more likely to appear when a Roller Snake eats Obsidian. They have a distinct blue color.

Roller Snakes eat a diet of Sand and Raw Minerals. They excrete Coal at a somewhat less efficient rate than Hatches. However, Roller Snakes have a metal rich rattle that may be sheared off at a Shearing Station like Dreckos. They regrow this rattle every couple cycles, providing a consistent source of metal.

  • The default Roller Snakes have a rattle formed of Gold Amalgam and can only grow their rattle in Oxygen.
  • The Tough Roller Snakes have a rattle formed of Steel and can only grow their rattle in Carbon Dioxide.

New Plants

The Spiky Succulent is a new fruiting cactus plant that produces both an edible flesh and flower each time it is harvested. Although it requires more Water to grow than a Bristle Blossom its heat tolerance makes it much easier to feed from a Cool Steam Vent or Water Geyser.

Both the Electric Grill and Gas Range have new meals that can be created with the food of the Spiky Succulent. Although the tooltip for the Spiky Succulent says it only produces Cactus Flesh, a Cactus Flower will also be produced when harvesting, which has about double the kcal of the flesh.

The Aqua Bulb is a new foragable plant that provides one-time Water. It is similar to the one-time food of the Muckroot and Hexalent. In order to extract the Water from the Aqua Bulb your Duplicants must use a Rock Crusher.

New Biome

The Desert biome brings an interesting mix of critters, plants, elements, and geysers to your world. Despite the heat and lack of water, vital industrial resources such as Iron Ore and Fossil can be found here, along with Roller Snakes, Slicksters and the new Plants added by this mod.

There are also some unique points of interest for your Duplicants to discover in the Desert.

New Worlds
Vanilla

Tetrament is a new asteroid added by this mod, the only asteroid natively containing the Desert biome. It is not intended to be a challenging map – instead it mostly serves to provide variety and a slightly different play experience. Worlds from the previous version of this mod can be continued on this cluster with no loss of data.

The biomes found on Tetrament include:

  • Forest
  • Desert
  • Caustic
  • Swamp
  • Tide Pool
  • Frozen
  • Space/Surface
  • Volcano/Core

Spaced Out: Classic

A version of the vanilla Tetrament map has been added as a Spaced Out classic cluster. It intends to remain faithful to the original mod’s map, and makes only minimal changes to the vanilla Tetrament map to add teleporters, points of interest, and other planetoids required to access the added Spaced Out content.

New! Spaced Out: Moonlet

The Tetrament Cluster is a moderately difficult moonlet cluster centered around the new Desert biome and the critter morphs introduced in the Fast Friends update.

  • Begin your journey in the Desert biome’s scorching heat, with very limited water available. Can you establish a sustainable colony before the starting reserves of Oxylite and Algae run out?
  • A short distance away, through teleporters if enabled, an only slightly cooler moonlet provides access to Cuddle Pips and Oakshells.
  • Pufts, Tropical Pacu and Dreckos will require taking to the skies and visiting a modified Marshy asteroid.
  • Tweaked versions of the Water, Superconductive, Moo, Tundra and Regolith moonlets are present with several vanilla world gen bugs fixed.
