Pax Hispanica is an alternate history mod where the War of Spanish Succession never occurred. As a result, you can play in a scenario where the Spanish Empire still exists as a hegemonic power and experience what might have happened if the Hispanic modernity of the Salamanca School had prevailed as an alternative to liberal modernity.

BACKGROUND

This alternate universe is triggered by the 1669 uprising led by Don Juan José of Austria against the government of the regent Mariana of Austria. In real history, Don Juan José only demanded to be appointed Prime Minister, but in this alternate universe, the Aragonese and Catalan nobility insisted on conditioning the succession of Charles II, naming Don Juan José as his heir in the event of premature death or lack of descendants.
The succession agreement was internationally supported by Great Britain, which thus managed to distance France and Austria from the Spanish throne…

You will find the rest of the backstory summarized on the game’s loading screen! If you want to know even more, I’ll tell you on my YouTube channel: Oso de Batalla.

CONTENT
The Spains: The Spain in this mod is very different from the vanilla game, as it is the multicultural empire created by the House of Austria. To begin with, the "Spanish" culture no longer exists separately from Catalan, Galician, and Basque; instead, it is now called Castilian, and all Spanish cultures are primary cultures, so you’ll have Castilian, Catalan, Basque, etc., politicians and generals. The interest groups have also been adjusted, with the Jesuits as the devout group and the Salamanca School as the intellectual group, with different ideologies to represent Catholic humanism. Of course, the laws have also been adjusted to reflect the influence of the Salamanca School and, more importantly, the absence of the Bourbons in Spain, lol.
Viceroyalties and Captaincies: This mod includes a dynamic system that allows you to create new viceroyalties and captaincies-general. With Spain, an event will trigger when you acquire a new vassal below the rank of protectorate, allowing you to choose whether you want it to be a viceroyalty or a captaincy-general. The former will be a dominion-type vassal and the latter a puppet-type vassal. Likewise, this vassal will have Castilian culture, a series of specific laws, a Catholic religion, and the Jesuits will be their devout interest group.
Holy Roman Empire: In this universe, the HRE was not dismantled, so it is represented in the game as a power bloc led by Austria, and all the principalities are protectorates of Austria. Your goal, playing as Austria, will be to reduce the autonomy of the principalities in order to form a unified Holy Roman Empire (the requirements have been adjusted so that you only need the territories of the principalities that start as protectorates and a couple of states that you’ll have to wrest from Prussia).
The Thirteen Colonies: In this universe, Spain did not support the independence of the United States, as it maintained a cordial relationship with Great Britain at the time (though hard to believe, it’s possible), so there is no trace of the United States. Instead, you have the Thirteen Colonies, and you can experience the War of Independence.
Venice and Genoa: You can play as the merchant republics of Venice and Genoa since Napoleon failed to occupy them due to the participation of the Spanish Empire during the coalition wars. With Genoa, you start as a Spanish protectorate, making it the ideal country to play an economic development campaign without surprises. With Venice, you are independent, and it presents a more challenging campaign. Additionally, you will retain the colonies in the Adriatic and Greece due to Spanish intervention in the Turco-Venetian war.
Strategic Regions: The strategic regions of America have been modified to represent the Hispanic order in the region, as this universe is based on Hispanic cartography rather than American cartography.
Power Blocs: The power blocs have been adjusted to the new backstory, with a bloc for the Hispanic Monarchy and the Austrian bloc replaced by the Holy Roman Empire. I’ve also changed the Russian shield to better represent that it’s an Orthodox Empire, not a bear empire, lol.
Hispanic Cultures: In America, post-independence cultures no longer exist; instead, everyone continues to be represented by the Indian society, which includes Creoles, Mestizos, and Indigenous people of Hispanic culture. The Peruvian, Chilean, Venezuelan, etc., cultures can emerge in the same way through the system Paradox implemented in previous patches. The religion of indigenous people like the Pueblo and Cherokees, who had already been evangelized and incorporated into Hispanic society before the arrival of the Anglo-Saxons, has also been adjusted. Additionally, Hispanicized native cultures have been created in Indonesia (Chamorros), New Guinea (Neoguineans), and New Zealand (Paniora).
The Manila Galleon and China: The Heavenly Kingdom events in China have been adapted to represent the influence of Spanish missionaries, with the Taiping Rebellion in this universe being a rebellion of Catholic peasants instigated by the Jesuits through the Port of China, a concession to Spain on the southern coast of China to strengthen trade with the China Galleon.
Indiano Development: The viceroyalties and Spain start in a better situation than the vanilla game since there were no wars of independence or Napoleonic occupation. You’ll begin with a larger population and economic development, as well as a more realistic level of technology and literacy.
And more features that I forgot to mention. You’ll discover them as you play…

MORE TO COME
There will be future updates that will add:
– Translation into all available game languages, although I’m warning you that I’m doing it with Chat GPT… If you want to offer me a translation done by you, message me on Discord!
– More characters for all viceroyalties
– More Events and Journal Entries with missions for Spain and other countries
– Changes to other countries and new nations to make the mod more interesting, beyond just playing with Spain, even if they are not 100% realistic in favor of making a fun mod, but I’ll try to ensure they always have a coherent backstory.
– Specific bonuses for more countries like the ones Spain has (Manila Galleon and Salamanca School) similar to the national ideas system of Europa Universalis IV and Hearts of Iron IV.
– More backstory descriptions for the rest of the nations in the lobby and revisions to the existing ones.
