LORE: The Space Pirates didn’t take MEMENTO’s direct intervention in the war kindly, and as retaliation, they began to intercept the Bocarra convoys that carried salvage from the ruins of Metalburg to the Chirpo planet. MEMENTO couldn’t count on the Chirpozoid escorts and had no funds to hire protection from HELIOS, Malice, Pixl, or any other corporation. Their morale was low. Most of them joined the Club to ride segways, drink mead and tell stories, and now they were hated by the Chirpos for a crime their generation didn’t commit, dragged into a war that wasn’t theirs, working on an endless expedition with no clear objective, and watching their brothers fight over disparate ideas of what they were as a group. It wasn’t worth it. Many left. But the ones who stayed, regardless of their own personal levels of pacifism or aggression, worked on an escort ship. Using the salvaged blueprints of the Huntress as inspiration, they built the Jackknife, a VTOL, air-and-space fighter designed for easy deployment that could fit inside a Bocarra when in folded mode.
