Old School Total Wars Guns
Tired of seeing your guns get only 10 kills after shooting your 3rd volley at a blob? Tired of how little difference there is between guns or crossbows? Then this mod is for you.
I made this mod that reworks the virgin Pea-shooter guns of tw warhammer that require 10 different sources of stat buffs to make them competent, into a chad old school total war guns like in shogun 2 and empire.
This mod is only for non character (aka lord or hero) units.
So what does the mod change?
Only the front row can fire!
(inconsistent af, some times it works, some times half or even the entire unit fires if the terrain is not flat. It is what it is, i didn’t make the code.)
So make sure you spread out your unit to make the most damage output!
Although most pistol units can still have almost everyone shoot because of their loose formations.
Bullets now have a Ton of Bonus vs infantry and some bonus vs cav. Most mods increase the ap of guns, but that only leads to guns being able to take down monsters in 2 volleys. This way its mainly only very lethal vs other human sized targets (yes that does mean you can almost 1 shot a foot lord/hero).
Bullets now inflict shield breaker and cause morale debuff! Pistol and repeater rifle units only apply the morale debuff.
Rifle units have a reload of about 25 seconds, and 18 for pistol units.
Reduced how far you can stretch unit formation (to keep it balanced since AI cant make a 2 line wide gun formation)
With this, gun infantry can finally have the impact they used to have back on the older total wars. (mainly shogun 2). Guns can now kill on the first volley even from a far although at max range its very few kills. The real power is at close range where a volley can take down 20-30 models. I tried to make this mod as balanced as possible, but with how inconsistent the "only front line can fire" code for the game is (no wonder they didn’t add this to wh3) it’s very hard to judge whats ok and what’s op. In some tests i had the desired results of shogun 2 level of kills per volley (16-20 kills per volley) but then when playing on sloped terrain, handgunners could get 60 kills in a single volley at mid range (not to mention the fact they can still get a lot of point blank shots while in melee). So they will feel a bit inconsistent at times, but at close range they bring the heat regardless. Also don’t try to long range duel with them, get in mid range if you want them to perform.
I’m yet to test it in late game with max reload, accuracy and damage upgrades and buffs.
Compatible with custom units so long as they are using vanilla projectile tables (weapons), Should also be compatible with other mods so long as you put it on top of the load order.
