The First Indochina War (generally known as the Indochina War in France, and as the Anti-French Resistance War in Vietnam, and alternatively internationally as the French-Indochina War) was fought between France and Việt Minh (Democratic Republic of Vietnam), and their respective allies, from 19 December 1946 until 20 July 1954. Việt Minh was led by Võ Nguyên Giáp and Hồ Chí Minh. Most of the fighting took place in Tonkin in Northern Vietnam, although the conflict engulfed the entire country and also extended into the neighboring French Indochina protectorates of Laos and Cambodia.

Chiến tranh Đông Dương thứ nhất, hay còn là cuộc kháng chiến chống Pháp là cuộc xung đột giữa Pháp, Việt Minh (Việt Nam Dân Chủ Cộng Hòa), Lào và Campuchia từ 19/12/1946 – 20/07/1954. Việt Minh được lãnh đạo bởi Đại Tướng Võ Nguyên Giáp và Chủ Tịch Hồ Chí Minh. Hầu hết những trận đánh xảy ra ở Bắc Kỳ (Bắc Bộ) Việt Nam mặc dù cuộc xung đột đã nhấn chìm toàn bộ đất nước và cũng mở rộng sang các nước láng giềng Pháp thuộc là Lào và Campuchia.
