Description:
This mod has been succeeded by Gloomy Vanilla Overhaul. Go get it!

This is fan-made modification patch for the GloomyFurniture mod. I read there was some interest from the community for a vanilla asset replacement in the Gloomy mod art style, so I decided to tackle that one for myself one lazy afternoon. It uses PatchOperations over the GloomyFurniture mod, so both mods are required (and this mod should be right after it in the load order).

For any additional content that was not a simple graphic swap, they have been rebalanced to align with vanilla standards and sorted into the existing build categories.

Note: I have no official association with the GloomyFurniture devs. I am just a fan who took a liking to their style and wanted to expand upon it.

Vanilla swap
  • Vanilla graphics changed to GloomyFurniture assets where appropriate.
  • The research bench’s footprint changed from 3×2 to 3×1.
  • The 2×4 table was changed to 2×3 as there was no other suitable replacement.
  • The 1×2 table is now 2×1, so you may need to have your pawns reinstall a table or two if you use this with an existing save.
  • In order to make the graphics look correct, the fueled smithy and the fueled stove were changed to be Stuffed buildings, meaning you can change the material. They still require a lot of steel, though.
  • The sewing machine was removed from GloomyFurniture’s hand tailoring bench’s graphic.
  • Because the GloomyFurniture graphics are now just being applied to the vanilla benches, it is more compatible with other mods that add recipes to the game (sort of the main reason I did this in the first place!)

New content
  • About half of the additional content was removed. This is essentially a more lightweight version.
  • Remaining content was sorted into the Structure, Furniture, or Misc categories to fit as appropriate. There is no more Old Style category.
  • Lamps and fireplaces that appeared to have flames no longer have an electric option.
  • Lamps that did not appear to have flames no longer have a fueled option. Electric only.
  • The GloomyFurniture electric smithy was not included as the graphics did not match the electric feature very well.

Rebalance
  • Most additional content was nerfed in regards to its beauty score to bring it down into better alignment with vanilla assets.
  • The fuel/power consumption rates of the lamps and fireplaces are closer to vanilla standards now.
  • The fueled stove’s (a vanilla asset, just retextured) fuel consumption was brought down to a more sane level. In vanilla, the fueled stove uses over 10x the fuel burn as a campfire and encourages some unrealistic playstyles.
  • The little wall lamps are no longer as powerful as their larger counterparts. Their glow range was reduced, but they also burn through fuel slower.
  • Many items from GloomyFurniture are now locked behind Complex Furniture or Electricity research requirements. If you’re doing a tribal start, your starting furniture options should now make a bit more sense.

Extended content
  • A butcher table was added in the gloomy furniture art style so that you can round up your kitchen’s design nicely.
  • If you use the More Linkables mod, the kitchen cupboard’s graphic has been replaced with a customized graphic to match the gloomy style.

Known issues
  • Some of the labels are incorrect (eg the table still saying its 2×4). Once I figure out how to patch DefInjections I’ll fix this.

Compatibility notes
  • Decore 1.0: run this mod after it because Decore 1.0 also does texture replacements.

Change log
    April 2nd, 2019

  • Walls were given 29% more hit points so that they match vanilla walls. Note that if you load an existing save, your walls will be 29% shy of these hit points. Sorry for the repair jobs needed, that’s just a game limitation with modifying stats on existing assets!

  • Fences have been rebalanced (buffed) using the popular Fences and Floors mod as the gold standard for comparison. Walls vs fences are now balanced in such a way that each unit of resources contribute around 75 hit points. Before, GloomyFurniture had it so that fences had the same cost of walls but had much fewer hit points. As with before, you may need to repair your fences if you load an existing save. Note that you didn’t actually lose any hit points, but rather the added hit points have to be built in.

  • Gave the stool a side graphic so it can be rotated again.
