Bookmarks of the British Isles
This mod is, foremost, a personal learning tool. It adds a series of bookmarks for pivotal wars within the British Isles. This is a WIP and there are 13 bookmarks available:
- 867: Northmen’s Wrath
- 937: Battle of Brunanburh
- 1015: North Sea Empire
- 1040: Tragedy of Macbeth
- 1066: Fate of England
- 1139: The Anarchy
- 1171: Laudabiliter
- 1189: Third Crusade
- 1215: First Baron’s War
- 1264: Second Baron’s War
- 1296: First War of Scottish Independence
- 1332: Second War of Scottish Independence
- 1346: Hundred Years’ War, The Black Prince
Every bookmark starts with an ongoing war akin to the Viking/Norman invasions in the vanilla bookmarks.
This can be played on its own but I’m only correcting things inside the British Isles themselves. If you want the rest of the world to be accurate then you need to play with something like More Bookmarks+. I’m working on a version that integrates MB+, meaning it will be require MB+.
- Get 1015 to work and finish Cnut the Great bookmark.
- Finish the Black Prince bookmark.
- Add province histories. Based off of MB+
- Add new cultures. Based off of MB+
- Adjust early province culture in preparation for Arthurian bookmarks.
- Adjust early province religion in preparation for Arthurian bookmarks.
- Possible Shakespearean bookmarks or characters.
- Finish the foundation for the Tragedy of Macbeth bookmark.
- Finish the Laudibiliter bookmark when Roads to Power releases.
- Finish the Arthurian bookmarks. Abandoned
- Add new provinces. Abandoned
- Add missing important historical characters.
The biggest problem is that CK3’s history files are, understandably, incomplete. A lot of people are missing.
- Corrected major borders as well I could, given the in-game boundaries between counties.
- Used existing characters, if there were any, to fill in empty titles or replace RNG characters. Much of this is probably ahistorical and will require another pass.
- I snuck in new loadings screens and made them truly random because I’m very sick of seeing the same one every time I open the game, which happens frequently while working on this.
I couldn’t see away around overwriting the following;
- frontend_bookmarks.gui, which makes minor changes to the UI of the bookmarks selection screen (showcased in the preview images)
- culture histories, which deals with innovation progression so that you’re not starting 1333 with 1066 tech.
The 1015 crash is caused by something within the tax collector system of clan governments, which is used by Muslim realms. I disabled the entire system because I can’t pinpoint the precise root cause. MB+ has resolved the problem. Playing with it will restore the tax collectors if it’s lower in the load order.
Compatible with pretty much everything, even other bookmark mods.
There’s only a bit of funk with MB+ because of their custom titles. Especially noticeable with the Kingdom of the Isles (Mann and the Hebrides) where MB+ uses their custom k_ellan_vanin and I use the vanilla k_mann_the_isles. Doubly noticeable with the 937 bookmark.
