Description:

VarioLF2 is a Czech partially low-floor, articulated two-section tram. It was developed by Pragoimex, Krnovské opravny a strojírny and VKV Praha, which make up the Alianci TW Team. Since the Vario LF2 is already the third representative of a series of partially low-floor cars with swivel bogies (after the standard type Vario LF and the three-section VarioLF3), it, like the previous types, is called “dvojwana” by tram enthusiasts (two-element “wana”-VarioLF).
Structurally, the LF2 is based on the previous models LF and LF3. It is a one-way, six-axle motor tram car that competes in power with Škoda 03T cars and replaces the outdated Tatra K2 trams. VarioLF2 consists of two parts, which are connected by a hinge. In the right side wall there are four double-leaf folding doors (Ostrava) or four-leaf folding doors (Brno) for passengers. The last door leads to the top of the car. The low-floor section, 350 mm high above the top of the rail, is located in the space behind the two middle doors and thus makes up 43% of the total area of the tram. At the joint (above the middle bogie), the floor is 860 mm higher than the top of the rail, that is, as high as in the outer parts of the tram.
The VarioLF2 is equipped with a Cegelec TV Europulse asynchronous electric motor (located on the roof), Komfort swivel chassis suspension and a semi-pantograph. The design of the tram was created by František Pelikán.
