The special-grade ballast track of Chinese railways is a type of track used in 250km-level passenger dedicated lines. Special-grade ballast has superior abrasion resistance, impact resistance, and compressive fracture performance compared to ordinary speedway ballast. It fills the gap between the high cost of using ballastless tracks within 200-300km of passenger dedicated lines and the production of ordinary ballast tracks, which are not conducive to high-speed railway operation, resulting in an intermediate product. The overall cost of ballast tracks from early construction to later maintenance is 30%-40% lower than that of ballastless tracks. Special-grade ballast is made by selecting and processing blasted stones, with strict control over the particle size distribution of ballast, and superior abrasion resistance, impact resistance, and compressive fracture performance compared to ordinary speedway ballast. After compaction, the track bed is stable and not easily deformed. Stone Taike, Nan Guang Railway, Yinlan Passenger Dedicated Line, and others are all laid with it, constituting the backbone of China’s high-speed railways.
