Description:

T-90M "Breakthrough" (Object 188M "Breakthrough-3") is a deep modernization of the Russian T-90 MBT adopted in 2020.
It was developed on the initiative of the Ural Design Bureau of Transport Engineering within the framework of R&D "Breakthrough-3", as a result of the modernization of the R&D program "Breakthrough-2". The purpose of which was a comprehensive modernization of the tank, covering almost all major systems.

The modernization of the tank was based on successful engineering solutions of the T-90AM and T-90SM tanks. The result of the work was a tank called the T-90M. We also took into account the military experience of operating these machines and their shortcomings. Work on the design of the T-90M "Object 188M" tank started in the early 2010s. For the first time, the tank was presented to the public at the international military-technical forum "Army-2018".

In 2017-2019, the Russian Defense Ministry signed three contracts for the supply of T-90M tanks with a total volume of over 160 vehicles. The first two contracts for the supply of 60 vehicles, of which 10 are new and 50 are upgraded, from T-90 early modifications. The third contract is for the modernization of the T-90A in service to the T-90M level. The first T-90M vehicles were transferred to the Russian Armed Forces in the spring of 2020. In the same year, the tank was adopted by Russia. At the beginning of 2021, UVZ began mass production and supply of T-90M tanks for the needs of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
