The Great Plague (ET Submod)
Experience the terror and misery of the Great Plague, also known as the Black Death. In 1346, the Great Plague swept Europe and the rest of the Old World, killing as many as 50 million people, including 50% of Europe’s population.
In EU4 terms, this means that the Great Plague will destroy around 50% of your nation’s development, greatly destabilze it, and limit your ability to wage wars for a decade.
While the Great Plague roughly coincides with the collapse of the Yuan Dynasty, historians believe the plague had a much smaller effect in India and East Asia than in Europe and North Africa.
Begin the game with the Great Plague by starting on the new "Great Plague" bookmark, starting on January 1, 1346. Choose from among the following interesting nations:
White Horde: The Plague was first noticed by European sources in Ästerhan, located in the White Horde Khanate. This makes them the first nation in the world to experience the Plague.
Genoa: As a Merchant Republic with posessions off the Sea of Azov, Genoa will transport the Plague to the core of Europe.
Venice: As the site of a major trading hub, Venice was hit particularly hard by the Plague.
Yuan: While the Plague is not implicated as a factor in Yuan’s collapse, the dyansty is experiencing internal struggles at this time.
Poland: Historially, Poland fared unusually well during the Plague, credited to their sparse population and tolerance for Jewish people.
England and France: England and France are currently embroiled in first phase of the Hundred Years War, but the Great Plague will likely end this phase of the war prematurely. While France has a substantial population advantage over England, the decentralized nature of France prevents them from presenting a united front against England.
Upon beginning the "Great Plague" disaster, you will immediately lose 2 stability.
While in Plague, your nation will receive the following modifiers:
+50% development cost
+50% stability cost
-50% trade efficiency
-50% manpower recovery speed
+5 global unrest
+75% liberty desire in subjects
While in Plague, events will frequently fire representing far-reaching effects of the plague on the nation, including:
Depleting manpower.
Leaders, heirs, and advisors dying(You will lose 1 stability for every lost leader, heir, or advisor.).
Reducing trade value.
The Plague will end after ten years.
Nations in the Indian and Chinese tech groups are unaffected by the plague. Lucky nations with less than 100 development are unaffected.
Requirements and Credits:
Requires Extended Timeline. This event is based on an existing disaster in Extended Timeline, but at the moment, the disaster does not work as expected in ET.
All localization files used in the current version of the mod are from Extended Timeline.
I have modified the events associated with the event to increase the propagation rate so that the plague can become a true pandemic.
I also increased the amount of development lost when the plague spreads to a province, and changed the starting conditions of the disaster.
