FFG-46 Naval Frigate
I spent a few years in the US Navy and getting back into Stormworks after being away from it for 3-4 years made me want to build a frigate style vessel.
This ship has a ton of great systems bolted on and created by many talented builders who have shared their amazing work on the workshop. I’ll list below and link where possible all the things you’ll find from others in this vessel.
Start up: Left of the helm in the bridge you will see four flip switches. Turn them all on to start the air intake pumps, exhaust pumps, fuel pumps, and radiators for the engine. Turn the key after all four switches are on and watch the ECU screen to see when the engine is up and running.
Armament:
This ship comes with a 9-cell VLS pack forward of the bridge, a bow mounted 76mm automatic naval gun, 4 .50 cal machine guns installed amidships and on the stern, and 2 7.62mm machine guns on the bridge wings for her armament. There is a forward security locker on the bow below deck and an armory back aft for personal weapons. There are also two rifles stowed in the bridge if needed for immediate defense. The small boat also has a rifle and bow mounted 7.62mm machine gun for security picket duties or VBSS operations.
Sensors:
The ship is equipped with the ADS3 defense system which can automatically engage multiple targets in the air or on the surface. This system uses multiple radars to ensure accurate tracking and all targets are displayed on a large screen in the pilot house. A large surface search radar scope is also mounted in the bridge and displays targets up to 12km away. There is an RWR system that will automatically dispense chaff from 4 6-pack SRBOC style launchers. The chaff dispense can be set to manual if desired. For subsurface threats the ship has a Sonar Control space on the main deck that has an active sonar console which can determine Lat/Long position data for submarine threats and a passive sonar display waterfall that shows broadband acoustic information from contacts to correlate with various sensors.
Aviation:
Equipped with an open air hangar the ship can accommodate a small helicopter and has a RAST (Recovery Assist, Secure and Traverse) style system using magnet connections. If the RAST system is active on the ship there will be a green indicator lit on the hangar so that approaching pilots can see the deck status (green or red). The helo control shack attached at the starboard side of the flight deck houses the RAST controls, a weather display, a radio, and a TACAN station to tune up and aid helicopter navigation back to the ship. There is a helo support room under the flight deck which has pump controls to feed fuel to the helicopter after it has landed. Hook up can be done when the helicopter is parked inside the hangar. There is also an electrical charger port in the hangar to keep the helicopter energized using ship’s electricity so that the magnets holding the helicopter to the ship don’t fully drain its battery.

Engineering:
The ship has two fuel transfer tanks that can receive fuel from the UNREP stations on the port and starboard waist. These two transfer tanks can transfer fuel to fuel tanks #1 and #2. From tanks #1 or #2 the fuel can be transferred to tanks #3 and #4 depending on the side of the ship. Tanks #1 and #3 are on the starboard side and tanks #2 and #4 are on the port side. The controls for fuel transfers are all housed in the ballast and fuel control room. There are also 3 bilges that can be controlled from this location as well.
There is an AC plant that pumps cold air into some spaces throughout the ship using a liquid to air heat exchanger. There is also a water plant that takes sea water and makes potable water to send to the various sinks, showers, and toilets throughout the ship. The toilets drain into a sewage black water tank that will need to be overboard discharged when the tank is full. The sinks and shower drains will empty into a grey water tank with controls for discharge are located in the water plant room.
Damage Control:
Throughout the ship there are multiple fire hose stations that are fed firemain pumped up from the two fire main tanks. These tanks will need to be refilled if there is prolonged firefighting. The controls for these are on the starboard or port side aft of the VLS magazine entry doors. At the VLS magazine entry doors there are VLS deluge controls that will initiate flooding of the VLS magazine in case of emergencies from battle damage or a hang fire where the missile does not leave the VLS cell. For dewatering after damage control, use doors to let the water flow down into the bilges (open black painted area at the bottom of the ship) and operate the bilge pump controls to overboard discharge the water.
There is a damage control repair locker located on the main deck aft of the armory and painted with a red colored door for easy identification. There is another damage control repair locker aft of the VLS magazine on the engineering deck.
Misc spaces:
There is a CO’s stateroom aft of the pilot house with a shower and sink attached in a bathroom. The toilet is in a separate bathroom just aft of the stateroom for bridge crew to share with using. There is an officer berthing on the main deck and an enlisted berthing down in the engineering deck. The main deck has a head with one toilet, sink, and shower. The enlisted berthing has two showers, two toilets, and two sinks. There is also a sink in the kitchen. Aft of the kitchen is a little dive locker with various bits of swim/dive gear.
