Merrick’s Venice (2024)
Adds Venice as a Civilization led by Leonardo Loredan. It can’t build settlers nor settle any cities, so if you want to expand you will have to do so through other means.
Venice receives four different uniques to help it get by with only one city to settle.
Stato da Mar
- Entering a new era grants +2 Envoys, +1 Trade Route Capacity, and a Great Patrician (a unique type of Great Person).
- Can’t build Settlers or settle Cities other than the Capital.
- +1 Loyalty and +1 Housing from districts built in the Capital.
Fondaco
Unique improvement, Can be constructed by Galeazza or Great Patricians.
- Must be on an empty Coast or Lake tile adjacent to land in the territory of another civilization or city-state with whom you have Open Borders.
- Copies the current yields from adjacent tiles and adds them to its own tile; These yields are then provided directly to the Capital.
- Can’t be adjacent to another Fondaco. Can not be worked by the city it is built in. Disaster resistant. Can not be removed manually.
Great Patrician
Unique Great Patrician earned at the start of each era*. Each has a unique retire ability.
- 2 Build Charges. Can construct Fondaco. Using both build charges will retire Great Patrician early, without triggering the retire effect.
- Naval military units within 2 tiles gain Strength and Gold from combat victories.
- Can embark immediatley and has +3 Movement while embarked.
- Ignores borders.
*the individual provided is random and there are more Great Patricians then eras, allowing for some replayability to get different combos.
Galeazza (Frigate)
Unique Naval Ranged unit unlocked at Military Engineering.
- +10 Combat Strength vs. district defenses.
- Can perform ranged or melee.
- +1 Movement when starting the turn on featureless coast.
- Shares Movement with formation.
- Has 1 build charge to build one Fondaco (doesn’t expend unit)
Oltramarini (Musketman)
Unique Melee Unit
- Halved Production cost (120 vs. 240) and Gold maintenance (2 vs. 4) but costs 1 Population to build.
- Can fight while embarked and can embark/disembark at no cost to Movement.
- +1 Movement and +5 Combat Strength on or adjacent to Coast.
- +5 Strength against fortified opponents, doubled when opponent is full health.
Triumph of Venice
- 50% refund on Diplomatic Favor when a Resolution outcome you voted for wins.
- +2 Gold and +1 Favor per turn from Harbor buildings. +0.5 Loyalty per turn from Citizens in cities with a Harbor.
Machiavellian Plots
- Wants to maximize his Diplomatic Favor, and dislikes others doing the same. Likes Civilizations that form alliances and will seek them himself. Condemns civilizations declaring surprise wars, but isn’t averse to them himself.

Notes
This Venice mod is mutually exclusive with my previous Venice mod and can’t be played together. This is an attempt at a one-city civ, the balance was tricky, but I wanted to see if i could create an alternative to my other mod that comes closer to the Civ V one-city playstyle of Venice.
