ГАЗ-66
GAZ-66 (‘Shishiga’ – army nickname from the abbreviation ‘sixty-six’) is a Soviet and Russian medium-duty off-road truck with 4 × 4 wheel arrangement, payload capacity of 2.0 tonnes and a cab over the engine.
GAZ-66 is the third (after GAZ-AAA and GAZ-63) generation of GAZ off-road trucks. It was used in the national economy of theUSSR/Russia. It was developed and produced at the Gorky Automobile Plant from 1964 to 1999, has a large number of modifications and special vehicles made on their base. It was nicknamed ‘Shishiga’ and ‘Shishka’ by consonance with the number 66. A total of 965,941 copies were produced.
The first prototypes of GAZ-66 were created in 1957, but due to the lack of a serial engine of the necessary capacity, the production of GAZ-66 was deployed only from July 1964. In the period 1958-1962 in small quantities was produced 1.2-tonne truck GAZ-62, with a cabin borrowed from GAZ-69. In July 1967, on all trucks the front cab cladding was changed (without horizontal slots). In 1968, all trucks received a centralized system of tyre pressure regulation (GAZ-66-01 and modifications), earlier not all trucks were produced with this system (GAZ-66, GAZ-66E, GAZ-66-03).
