Sledgehammer [RE2]
Sledgehammer Combat CV
Core 9, Level 25, Complexity 3, Reforged Eden 2
Intentions: Combat, Survival, Drone Farming
The Sledgehammer is a carefully balanced combat vessel. I tried to hit the golden spot between weight, thrust, shield and attack strength. All the important parts are spread in sections and enclosed/separated by xeno steel.
With the main weaponry dishing out 10.5k damage per volley, it poses a serious threat to most of the enemy vessels out there. You will be able to make short work of nearly everything you may encounter.
The Sledgehammers rather flat and small profile, combined with a decent thrust, enables you to dodge some of the incoming projectiles. I tried to make it operatable as efficient as possible with short walking distances, placing the stations where you need it and in order to get to them quickly.
The weapons arrangement is made for a direct approach on the enemy. Too keep a low profile and a good energy balance, there is a limitation on armour. In the front section, there are 1-3 layers of xeno steel, but in the middle and rear section, there is often just one layer of xeno steel, sometimes in combination with normal steel. You have to rely on your 81k shield. The decoy section – the hammerhead in the front – does pull some fire, but consider retreat and regrouping when the shield is down. Watch out for shield penetrating weapons.
Be careful when activating and loading the shield to not put too much strain on the generators by doing heavy maneuvers and constructing at the same time. It is very delicately balanced.
There is an emergency cockpit installed on deck 3 in the rear section.
However, due to efficiency reasons for its intended role, the ship comes without hangar and ramp. To transport any HV, you’ll have to apply one or more docking pads at the HV’s side, attaching it that way to the hull of the Sledgehammer. At the back under the rear thruster, there is a spot with a slightly larger area, to make it able to reach to attach for smaller HVs.
Nevertheless, the Sledgehammer is equipped with some commodities like a farming area, two comfortable cabins and a pool – you might want to relax after a hard battle, after all.
Modifying
With over 40k CPU left, you might want to complete the Sledgehammer according to your preferences.
– Next to the hammerhead-shaped decoy section in the front, there are marked spots for four basic plasma turbines and two advanced plasma turbines.
– There are some spots to add more turrets.
– No CPU needed, but there is space for 20 growing plots on deck 2.
– In the front of the decoy section, there are spots marked and reserved for two laser drill modules or light cannons.
– The two matter transceiver are accessible in case you want to replace them with the advanced model.
– If you need more thrust, upgrade some of the thrusters to the plasma variation.
– There is some space left in the CPU room, maybe you want to install an additional fuel tank.
