LORE:
(For those interested in the story)

In 1973, amidst the backdrop of the Cold War, the United States embarked on a daring expedition deep into the Antarctic. Their mission: to unearth valuable oil reserves hidden beneath the icy terrain. As the team relentlessly drilled into the frigid ground, they stumbled upon not only vast oil deposits but also unexpected resources. However, their triumph was short-lived.

After a week of relentless drilling, the team began to sense a sudden shift in temperature. The snow around them melted away, and from its icy prison, Chunkjira emerged, a colossal creature that dwarfed anything they could have imagined. With a thunderous roar, Chunkjira wreaked havoc, devouring most of the expedition team and its equipment. As survivors fled on a plane, Chunkjira set a direct course for the open sea.

The survivors returned with harrowing tales, prompting the U.S. government to take immediate action. Mass hysteria gripped those in the know as they pondered how to respond if the creature turned hostile. In June of 1975, Project Mekadora, a highly classified initiative beneath San Francisco, and the creation of a secret naval division, the Anti-Kaiju Task Force, were set in motion.

Years passed, and sightings of Chunkjira had to be discreetly covered up. Then came August 13th, 2023, "The Day Monsters Became Real." After a series of small earthquakes in Japan, giant ants emerged, wreaking havoc across the country. Soon after, Chunkjira surfaced in the Port of Tokyo, igniting mass panic and media hysteria. Within an hour, the world came to terms with the existence of monsters. Japan launched multiple ballistic missiles in a futile attempt to destroy the creatures, but their efforts proved in vain. Eventually, the ants retreated, and Chunkjira returned to the depths of the sea.

After two days of tracking the elusive creature, Chunkjira reemerged in Puerto Rico, bringing chaos to the Dominican Republic. As America contemplated using ICBMs, Chunkjira descended on the Caribbean. Evacuations began, moving civilians away from potential surface points. For a while, the situation remained eerily quiet, only for Chunkjira to surface off the west coast of Costa Rica, near Panama City. The military, armed with advanced weaponry, succeeded in pushing him back into the ocean, but he resurfaced in Mexico within the hour.

Chunkjira, with both underwater and surface mobility, traveled toward Baja, California. After a fierce battle in Baja, he abruptly returned to the sea with great haste. His next sighting was offshore of Monterey, California. As he entered the city, demolishing the Golden Gate Bridge as most monsters tend to do, he made landfall in Fisherman’s Wharf and progressed up the Embarcadero. Meanwhile, Project Mekadora, a mechanical monster inspired by the 1973 description of Chunkjira, emerged from Twin Peaks.

Chunkjira initially attempted to communicate with Mekadora in a mating dance that was misunderstood as an offense. This led to a brutal battle near City Hall, culminating in Project Mekadora being disemboweled, hanging from the Trans-America Building’s framework. Despite vanquishing the mech he had mistaken for a mate, Chunkjira’s battle was far from over…

OVERHEAT MODE:

Chunkjira, similar to the kaiju "Burning Godzilla" from Toho’s 1996 film "Godzilla vs. Destoroyah", is slowly overheating. At stage 1 Overheat, you can see slight steam emerging from his tail, back, and spine. At stage 2, you will see a fiery orange mix with that grey steam. During Stage 2, you can use Chunkjira’s devastating Plasma Spray, spraying forth the unusable, boiling contents of his blood system. After Stage 2, Plasma Spray is still usable. At Stage 3, he will begin burning, fire spraying out from within him. At Stage 4, he finally just melts, represented by his exploding.

To counteract his overheat, the player can do one of 3 things:
Enter Cooling Mode, represented by disabled movement and lots of white steam
Enter the water, at roughly knee height he will begin to cool himself, like a cooling tower.
Plasma Spray, emptying the burning contents will allow the user to cool.

Or, if you smell, you can just enter God-Mode (Invincibility) to bypass the self-destruct.

CONTROLS:

WASD: Move (as always)

Middle Mouse Button: Plasma Spray (Requires Overheat Stage 2 or Higher)
