USS Massachusetts BB-1012
"Oh hey, it’s the USS Massachusetts from Modern Warships!"
The USS Massachusetts is a fictional NATO battleship from the year 2051, originally created by planetrix15 on DeviantArt. Most prominently, the ship featured as a playable battleship in the game Modern Warships. Regarding her lore, planetrix15 has included a pretty extensive and well written text on the original post, so I will keep mine here to a minimum.
The USS Massachusetts was designed in 2051 as a joint NATO project. The ship featured excellent stealth characteristics and composite armor, as well as a multi-layered defense system that included laser CIWS, granting her very good survivability. Her firepower was great as well, with her two twin railguns, and wide array of VLS missiles, as well as a radar system that could detect virtually anything that got within several dozen nautical miles of her. Especially her railguns were a potent weapon, capable of firing shells at Mach 37 with an intercontinental range.
Specifications:
Length: 261 m
Beam: 35.4 m (widest point), 34 m (at waterline)
Height: 52.8 m
Armament:
2 * 2 MJ-L-12 electromagnetic railguns
3 20mm machine cannons
6 laser CIWS
72 RGM-158 LRASM anti ship missiles in VLS
96 SM-6 VLAA missiles in VLS
2 * 10 533mm torpedoes
1 24-tube B-100 MLRS
There are actually quite some differences between planetrix15’s original design and Modern Warships’ iteration of this ship. As I assume the Modern Warship one is more well known, that’s the version I tried to mostly base myself on. The most interesting of these differences I found were that Modern Warship uses a changed CIWS and autocannon layout, and also including two torpedo launchers that the original one didn’t have. While the original lore describes the MJ-L-12 as 10.2 inch (260mm) railguns, Modern Warships changes this down to 155mm. Furthermore, the original design makes no mention of the B-100 multiple launch rocket system.
Oh and also, according to the original design, the Massachusetts is powered by a nuclear reactor. However, both the original design and the Modern Warships one have funnels. Why is that? Is it actually conventionally powered after all? Does the Massachusetts have a backup conventional engine like Kirov? We might never know.
I wish you fun with her!
