Description:

This mod adjusts the “above expected grandeur” bonuses to be much smoother and gives a lot more bonuses to larger kingdoms and empires with high grandeur.

Without the mod, there is a sweet spot where you get insane bonuses at 20 and below counties in a kingdom. Going up to 21 counties cuts that down by a ton because you lose the huge bonus for 9 levels above. Then every county over 25 reduces all your bonuses since it divides 100 by the counties with a max of 4, reducing the 4x modifier by about .15 per county. Then when you hit 41 counties, you lose the entire 8th level above bonus – which means no more lifestyle experience. It’s even worse if you’re an empire – empires start at 10 grandeur above kingdoms, meaning the minimum at 20 or fewer counties is level 3. So empires can never get bonus lifestyle experience.

This mod aims to change that by spreading the bonuses across all of the levels, so you start to get nice bonuses even at only a few points above your minimum; and adjusting the under 100 county scaling to make it smoother and give more bonuses beyond 100.

The new multiplier is: 81.25 divided by total counties plus 0.75, clamped between 1 and 4. This makes it 4 at 25, 3 at 36, 2 at 65, 1.4 at 125, and 1 at 325. Further, the most desired bonuses are moved down in the chain – all it takes to max lifestyle exp is 6 levels above. Further levels add additional prestige, renown, and opinion boosts – but losing the top few by expanding a bit no longer cripples the best bonuses. For example, without this mod a king at 10 grandeur with 20 counties gets 60% lifestyle xp, with 21 counties it’s 40%, with 40 counties it’s 25%, and with 41 it’s 0%. With this mod, it’s 60% at 20-25, 41.7% at 40, and 41% at 41. And empires can get the bonuses too. Renown bonuses start a little earlier at 2 levels above, which makes AI rulers tend to get a bit of extra renown.

The optimal max bonuses as a 10 grandeur king with 20 counties are identical to the base game, the difference is you can achieve near-optimal bonuses with a bit less grandeur or more counties. The screenshot above is a before and after of the Byzantine Empire in one of my games.

Compatibility Note: This mod edits the script value court_grandeur_level_difference_modifier_multiplier and the modifiers court_grandeur_above_expected_level_1 through court_grandeur_above_expected_level_9. It should be compatible with anything that doesn’t modify those.

-update v1.1- I slightly adjusted the formula to scale between 25-325 instead of 20-320, updated details above too. It was originally 64 divided by counties plus 0.8, making it scale 4-1 from 20 to 320, but this inadvertently nerfed 21-25 county kingdoms by getting rid of one of their bonus knights.
