Age of Imperialism
The Greek Uprising in 1821 sparked several revolts across the Balkans which resulted in the First Balkan League to fight against the Turks. Through the nine years of brutal guerilla warfare the Turks agreed to peace after pressure from France, Great Britain, Austria, Prussia, and Russia. The Treaty of Selanik had resulted in the liberation of Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Albania, and Greece. The Balkan revolt had sparked many other nationalist uprisings across Europe. The Catalans declared independence from Spain, and Hungarians from the Austrian Empire; however, these new nations were brought back under their respective houses with newfound autonomy.
In Russia, following these revolts had resulted in the Decembrist and Novembrist revolts which resulted in a more progressive Russian Duma, and autonomy for diverse ethnic groups in western and southern Russia.
Quickly after the Ottoman defeat against the Balkan League Egypt had began a secession from the Sultain. Almost capturing Constantinople, the Egyptians were driven back by British forces who sought to retain a balance of power in eastern europe against their Russian rivals.
The Belgian revolt in the Netherlands had resulted in the French, out of fear of their own nationalist revolts, aided the Dutch to secure their borders.
British domination in India had led the French to orgagnize their own subjugation attempts in Indochina leading to the colony of Dai Viet to compete with the English in asian colonization.
