Antideus: The Isaac RPG!
Howdy!
So, over the course of the past few months, I’ve been slowly building up a small-scale turn-based RPG entirely within the modding API of The Binding of Isaac. I already published an earlier version of this mod that comprised only the battle system, but this version…
Well, it’s an entire short game!
Today, I’m happy to finally hand it over to the community. This has been a gargantuan task, and I’m so happy with how it turned out.
The content of this mod can be accessed through a custom challenge of the same name, and the whole experience takes roughly 45-60 minutes for a blind playthrough. Might be more, might be less, it depends on how experienced you are with RPGs.
I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I enjoyed making it!
Also, special thanks to all of the people who helped me with QA testing, the people who gave great feedback to guide the direction of the mod, and the people who generally helped to keep me motivated to finish this mod:
– Screamadelica
– sanwichreview
– Stewartisme
– Leshy
– Bunger
– Pancake
– flippinegg
– PJJLegend
– vinnyp316
– SlayXc2
– All-Seeing
So what’s next for this project? Well, ideally, I would have kept making this in Isaac, but the engine is starting to show its cracks, and I feel like it’s best for my sanity to move on to Love2D. This was great as an exhibition, but I would prefer to be able to put the finished project on Itch and Steam when all is said and done, and I can’t really do that if it’s an Isaac mod.
…plus there’s a whole bunch of content in here that I don’t own that would have to get replaced with original content, but that’s a whole other can of tomatoes.
I will eventually start work on a full version of this mod, expanding it out into a full RPG, with a proper story, fully original assets and music, and more in-depth combat mechanics. I won’t say too much about it, but I do have some very fun things planned!
Either way, I consider this to be my capstone project as far as Isaac mods go, so this will be my farewell letter, at least for a while. It’s been a blast, and I deeply enjoyed my time learning to mod this game. Maybe someday I’ll come back and finish some of the projects I’ve been meaning to get back to, but it won’t be for a while.
Also, here’s a link to my Ko-fi for those that are interested in supporting my insane projects: https://ko-fi.com/poondaedalin
It’s never mandatory, but it’s always appreciated.
Anyway, I’m rambling.
Thanks a lot, y’all. It’s been a pleasure. 🙂
