A Better Start for LW2 (LITE)
Wait did I hear that right? "Decades" I expect Central to be a bit more sheepish in telling me how long I have been away. Sure the base is new but how did we seem to lose all of our scientists and engineers? How is it there are no supplies outside of a few MRE’s? And who the hell lost the mystic knowledge that allowed the Skyranger to carry more than 4 grunts into battle?!
This mod is a tongue-in-cheek EZ-button for starting off as the recently awakened Commander. A cubic crap-ton of supplies, intel, and alloys along with tweaks to that reduce research and build times assuming the XCOM staff got actually BETTER at their work instead of worse.
This mod works at all gamelevel difficulties.
An LW2 compatible version of "A Better Start"
Through the update of XComGameData.ini I have head large shipment of resources along with some calibration on scalars. The starting values have been curved to the difficulty setting giving you the most at rookie level and impossible level. This LITE version has reduced the bumps significantly so that the base management is still an essential part of the game.
- Starting supplies are 50 to 800 depending on game diff.
- Starting intel is 200 to 550 depending on game diff
- Starting elerium is 100 to 300 depending on game diff
- Starting alloys are 150 to 300 depending on game diff
- Starting power is 0 to 10
- Starting comm capacity 0 to 4
- Building and clearing scalars have been reduced to 0.3 to 1.2
- Research scalars are reduced to 0.8 to 1.1
This mod differs from the original in that it doesn’t mess with the starting number of recruits, and skyranger capacity at the start. LW2’s setting are better in these cases.
This mod was my attempt to answer the numerous requests to tone down the OP’ness of my original mods. However if I still haven’t hit the mark for what some players may want for this mod the following are the instructions to modify this mod and set the stats to the values that work for you.

If you are an old pro at editing ini files of your favorite mods and you know the trick on how to make sure your changes survive the mod author’s future updates please note that copying this mod’s files to your local XCOM game directory it will disable the mod. The reason being that the load order for mods are as follows: core game > DLC > local mods > workshop mods. This means the LW2 workshop mod will get loaded last and override all of your local mods that change the same values. The only way to get around this is to also copy the LW2 mod into your local mods folder…still no guarantees this will work. My advice is to save your changes to a file else where and then just copy them back after any future updates occur.
Other A Better’ MODSI have built a collection of mods under this same theme of wanting to start with a better advantage. There are multiple versions of the mods for LW2 and WOTC compatability and lesser OP versions for those who want some advantages but not overkill.
