Description:

Muslim militants from Soviet Azerbaijan destroy an oil production refinery in Nizhnevartovsk, threatening to cripple the Soviet Union’s economy due to oil shortages. After much deliberation, the Soviet Politburo decides to seize the Persian Gulf by military force in order to recoup the country’s oil losses. Knowing that the United States had pledged to defend the oil-producing countries in the Persian Gulf, the Soviets decide that neutralizing NATO is a necessary first step before its military operation can take place. If West Germany were to be neutralized and occupied, the Soviets believe that the United States would not move to rescue the Arab states since it could meet its oil needs from the Western Hemisphere alone.

To divert attention from the impending operation, the Politburo embarks upon an elaborate maskirovka to disguise both their predicament and their intentions. The Soviets publicly declare their arms reduction proposal to scrap their obsolete nuclear missile submarines. The KGB then carries out a false flag operation involving a bomb being detonated in a Kremlin building, framing a KGB sleeper agent as a West German intelligence spy involved in the incident. The Politburo publicly denounces the West German government and calls for retaliation.

Even though a planned attack on a NATO communications facility in Lammersdorf was compromised when a Spetsnaz officer was arrested, the Soviet Army pushes through with their advance operations in Germany. They suffer reverses on the first night of the war, however, when NATO stealth and fighter-bomber aircraft achieve air superiority over Central Europe by eliminating Soviet fighter and AEW&C aircraft, and destroying key bridges that much of the Soviet Army has yet to cross.

This is the moment, when our missions will start: the North Atlantic is on stake!

Mission One:
The Soviet Force try to close the Suvlaki GAP with a strong landing operation against Iceland.
You must sink the transport ships to prevent this operation.
If they succeed, they can use the island as an unsinkable carrier for their bombers – and our convoys will not be safe anymore.
Intel suggest their main goal is the eastern shore of the island. Also, we expect strong sub presence here – at least 3 nuclear attack sub detected.
You have a small task force of five USN vessels, a Los Angeles class submarine and most important: Keflavik NATO Air Force Base. Good luck!

Mission Two:
Iceland was captured by the Soviets, now the atlantic barrier is open. The soviet submarines are already on their way to the north atlantic.
The Keflavik airport is now housing many soviet bombers and fighters. Our convoys are in big threat.
You tasked to escort a big convoy – without these shipments the NATO forces will be in big trouble in West-Germany.
At least half of the merchant vessels must reach the protected waters of Great-Britain.
You will have a limited force: look for submarines, but do not think that the air will be safe.
It is a very long and dangerous voyage…

Mission Three:
The atlantic NATO convoys are in great danger, we must do something against the soviet submarine threat.
You will have two LA class hunter submarine, and some destroyers – to search the waters south of Iceland.
Actual images from spy satellites show us there are at least ten submarines.
For a successful mission, you should find and sink at least five of them.
You have two days to achive the victory, then our CBG must leave Norfolk.

Mission Four:
You command the Independence CBG to the way to the shores of Ireland.
Because of the many tensions around the world, like Iran at the Gulf, Lybia at the Mediterrean and the Olimpic Games at Seoul, we do not have many carriers left to send to the north atlantic.
The Constellation would also join the task force, but after she sailed from Norfolk, she had suffered major issues with the fuel tanks.
You must reach the relatively safe shores of Ireland. If you would be detected by the Soviet forces you can expect many bomber attack, so keep a low profile.
Because the Subhunter destroyer group cleared the north atlantic last week, we are not expecting too big threat from below – but of course, you can never be safe.

Mission Five:
The night is arrived, you must destroy Keflavik airfield on Iceland, or the marine division could not start to capture the island back.
Itelligence suggest to attack from the west, there only sea assets could stop you. The soviets packed many S300 batteries to the south shore, to prevent any operation from the near UK NATO airports.
In this case, your bombers could take off from Sondrestrom Air Base, on Greenland. You have Corpus Christi SSN-705, to sneak into the port of Reykjavik, to give proper attack vector for the bombers.
You must finish the task until morning.

Mission Six:
You are using the modified ballistic missile submarine, the Lafayette. The ship was modified in the recent months, and could not carry ballistic missiles anymore, but a detachment of any special operation group. You must reach the north shores of Iceland near Akureyri. A SEAL Team attached your sub, they must reach the shores, and start their mission on the ground. They must reach the shore until dawn. The Keflavik airport was destroyed two days ago, so we do not expect small subhunter planes near Iceland, but many ships, hunter submarines and possible some Tu142s are present, keep a low profile.

Mission Seven:
Our marine battalion in on board on two Tarawa class ships the Nassau and the Saipan, we set sail from Norfolk a day ago. Our task is to reach Reykjavik, and land our maine batalion there. Our SEAL team from Akureyri managed to destroy many radar and SAM installations, and mobile devices. You will have to deal only some shore defece elements, so you will have the cruiser Long Beach, use her tomahawks against the defensive platforms. Our intel find out that the russians have information about our landing force, and about the time when we left Norfolk. So the russian fleet has left Murmansk to prevent the landing, and destroy our task force. They are using overwhelming surface force. Luckily, we have intel about their plan. They split their forces in two, one will lead by the Kiev carrier, from the north, and one will lead by the Kirov battlecruiser from the south east. The Independence CBG set sail from Glasgow, to destroy the south-east group, and help the marines to land. Some submarine is also present. Satellite reconaissance suggest that many soviet Tu95s and Tu22Ms were also take off from the airfields in Kola Peninsula. Check the sky for them, and do not let them attack our landing group.

Mission Eight:
In West-Germany full stalemate happened, the front has completely stopped. We do not have any good achivements except in the North-Atlantic. After we managed to land on Iceland, and destroy the two most powerful Soviet fleet groups, they start to move their assets back to their lairs – to Murmansk. You are the comander of the new LA submarine, the Chicago, and your task is to hunt down the Soviet submarines and ships, as they try to run away. Intel suggest, no friendly or neutral assets could be on those waters – destroy everything what you see!

Mission Nine:
After our marines managed to capture Iceland, they could not rest. At the beginning of this conflict the russians captured north Norway. We must hurry, to retake the north, now it is already September, and the winter is coming. Use the Nassau and the Saipan, and land our marines to Bodo. Bodo has an airfield (it was a NATO airfield before), the soviets are using this airfield to maintain their power projection around the Sea of Norway. It would be the best if we could capture this airfield without destroying it. Not much left for the soviets to attack you, some patrol boats, 1-2 destroyers, and some defence platforms is protecting Bodo.

Mission Ten:
Attack on Murmansk!
