1979 – Tensions Rise

The world has mostly recovered since the events of the last world war. But, recent internal conflicts has led to tensions all across the world as nations scramble to join an alliance for the protection from another.
Clearly, the world is on the brink of World War III. Tensions have risen exponentially since Germany’s acquisition of nuclear warheads in 1966. The USSR has splintered and the former Allied powers of England and France have been forced to seek exile in their colonial holdings among Africa. The Sahara desert has become uninhabitable due to numerous nuclear bomb tests which ravaged the area and covered it with radiation. South-West Africa has become a zone of anarchy and the world teeters on the brink of M.A.D. The world has been divided by the three blocs of the world; the Fascist bloc (The Axis Powers), the Western Bloc (Allied Powers) and the communist Eastern Bloc. Who is going to win the cold war that could turn out to be deadly?

After a stalemate was reached in 1948, the world has been in a constant limbo of peace and war. Recent conflicts are beginning to start, and the world may not last to see the year 2000. Since Hitler’s death in 1955 from illness and declining health, the German state had mostly been reformed into an isolationist totalitarian state. The USSR had been splintered and kicked out of Europe, being limited now to only its holdings in Asia and still suffering the aftershock of war exhaustion alongside the United Kingdom and France being exiled from their homelands after their embarassing defeat in World War II. Recent conflicts such as the Turkmen Civil War (ongoing since September 1978), the internal guerilla conflict in the Congo (which dated as far back as 1970, with spillovers in German Kamerun) and the joint invasion of Paraguay by Bolivia and Argentina (that had been going on since as early as October 1976) is only escalating an already delicate political situation.

The Cold War is beginning to escalate as Germany and the United States go into a nuclear face-off to see who will be victorious. Is the world going to last to see the year 2000, the new millenium?
