Description:

SUMMARY:
This mod divides the Roman Empire into playable (and historically accurate) Diocese. Emperor Diocletian divided the Empire into Diocese, where multiple provinces were administratively grouped together under the command of a vicarius. This mod allows you to play as these vicarii and govern a subsection of the Empire (or declare independence and claim the crown for yourself).

FEATURES:
Playable Roman Diocese factions, as well as Roman client kingdoms Lazica and Nobatia. Each faction has fully functioning family trees, political parties, victory conditions, and custom separatist civil war factions (with unique separatist faction emblems). All factions are playable in custom battles and multiplayer campaigns too. The ERE and WRE start as overlords of the Diocese, but if you declare independence you have the option of confederating with other Diocese to re-name your faction and form either the Western Roman Empire or Eastern Roman Empire. I have carefully balanced the amount of factions that start at war with the ERE and WRE to prevent vassal swarm. You also have the option to play the ERE or WRE, which are just city-states but with a vast network of Diocese at their command. The de-centralized ERE or WRE campaign is reminiscent of the SPQR faction in the original Rome Total War.

PLAYABLE FACTIONS:
Diocese of Africa
Diocese of Asia
Diocese of Britain
Diocese of Dacia
Diocese of Egypt
Diocese of Gaul
Diocese of Hispania
Diocese of Illyricum
Diocese of Italia
Diocese of Macedonia
Diocese of Oriens
Diocese of Pontus
Diocese of Vienne
Lazica
Nobatia

*READ THIS BEFORE PLAYING*
There is a longstanding glitch in Attila Total War that affects puppet states. If you are playing as a puppet state (like in the vanilla Lakhmid campaign), each time war is declared on a co-puppet faction, the game incorrectly causes you to be at war with that co-puppet. Because the Diocese are puppets, this may happen at some point in the mod, and it is not something I can fix. However, the ERE and WRE already start at war with multiple factions, so this should be a rare occurrence in the mod.

Note that certain Diocese are much higher difficulty than others. Frontier Diocese like Britain and Dacia will have (by design) an extremely difficult time surviving. Other Diocese like Asia or Hispania are relatively sheltered deep within the Empire.
