PoW Rivervale Town Map
Rivervale Town is a small mining town near the river. After the outbreak of the Great War, the Uberwaldian army crossed the river. Uberwaldia began the siege of the city, while it was defended by a small garrison of Bugleau border troops. The city was not taken, but the defense became meaningless when the enemy outflanked the city. The Bugleau army troops had to retreat.
The World During The Early 1910’s
During the 1910’s, Eugocast was relatively peaceful for a whole century, being an absolute center of the world, leading in innovation and inventing astonishing technologies, such as the first airplanes, cars, zeppelins, with many nations building infamous structures, such as the Hell-Landian Tower of Brennendaele in 1900, the Val Verde Picard Tower in 1909 and The Morkabarare House of Laurenz Goss. But then, in 1911, It decided to tear itself appart and destroy what It spent so long creating.
The Hell-Landian Kingdom, which was in It’s late stages of Victorius Eram where the previous King Victorius pushed the nation towards industrialization and modernization, from paved roads to huge docks, factories and many coal mines across the country being now connected by astonishing railway systems. King Victorius modernised the army as well, with him also creating the RNAS and contributed to the creation of the biggest battleship in history, measuring over 358 meters (1147.54ft), The Godess of the Seas, along with her two giant 2-gun turrets, is still to this day, truly a phenomenon.
Val Verde, during the mid-1880’s, would discover smokeless gun powder, thus pushing the firearms industry far and beyond, with them creating the Lebel rifle as the first rifle to use smokeless ammunition. In 1903 on August 15th, a man by the name of ** has constructed a machine. But not just any machine. He created the first ever functional plane. A month later, he himself would fly It from the Val Verde capital, across the Ermanius Canal, straight into Hell-Land, with him landing in theirs capital, refueling and flying all the way back to Val Verde capital, thus earning the Ulmer Price for innovation and creating of an air-plane.
In Prusilian Empire, the political situation was slowly going from bad to worse. The Tzar Ivan Lebediev the 4th was not infact a great leader, as his father Krushchev Lebediev died by influenza when Ivan was just 8 years old. Without a proper preparation to be a Tzar, the entire empire slowly degraded. In very short amount of time, the entire empire declined in terms of education, work and even wealth. One Prusilian poet and a high-profile writer, Alexei Zhukov Shcherbakov, wrote a book about the political state of each country of not only the Eugocast continent, but also Libertara and Arrankada, primarly comparing and critisizing them. Later, he would write the book "The Poor and the Rich" in which he would invent the so-called "Schcherbism" (Communism). This ideology spread all over the Prusilian Empire and became the main thing to be talked about, and the book would even make It’s way to other nations and continents, like a giant controvertial wave, with many people being interested in this type of change to the government, primarly the lower and poorer classes of Prusilian Empire.
The Assasination and The Beggining
On September 27th, 1911, the assasination of Heinrik von Richtofen Dubois and his wife Gabriela Dubois shook not only the Eugocast, but also the Libertaran continent and Arrankada. It took place in Überwaldian capital city of Gildemburg during a military parade, where they, alongside the Kaiser Reinard von Richtofen, drove at the front in open top cars, waving, smiling. The assasination was to be carried out by Marco DeParsoin, a member of a Val Verde nationalist movement, which was infamous for It’s anti-imperialistic opinions, The Red Berets, which also had their opinion on Gabriela Dubois, who was of Val Verde origins, and was supposed to marry an Überwaldian imperialistic archduke and a heir to the throne.
Two weeks after the assasination, Überwald has sent an ultimatum, which consisted of many humiliating demands which either had to accepted, or Überwald would invade Val Verde. After another week, the ultimatum was sent back to Überwald, with Val Verde accepting some, but not all of the terms, so Überwald decided to declare war and mobilise It’s army, which at the time was very provocative to other nations, such as the Prusilian Empire, which had been an ally of Val Verde, and feared of being invaded by both Überwald and Morkabarare, as Morkabarare accepted to stand by Überwalds side. Due to that, Prusilia had sent Überwald their own ultimatum, requesting that they would stop mobilising. Instead however, Überwald would declare war on Prusilia as well, but would not fight eachother until the beggining of 1914.
Überwald also requested an investigation of how could the assasination even happen, as Marco DeParsoin seemed to be trained much like soldiers would be in that era, managing to slip into the crowd and not be checked for any weapons by police men and managing to assasinate the archduke and his wife. He managed this all alone, with no help from anyone. The investigation was ultimately refused by the Val Verde prime minister.
